Post subject:  dangerous terrain tets for countercharge and consolidation?

Are these "moves"? You don't get to overwatch when these happen, do dangerous terrain tests not apply as well?

Dangerous Terrain tests would still apply, Overwatch has specific conditions to be met for which movement count for allowing overwatch, from FAQ.

Dangerous Terrain tests have no specific conditions to be met for which type of movement trigger the test, it is only when entering or starting to move whilst in Dangerous Terrain that matters.

Roll a D6 when you enter dangerous terrain, or when you start
to move if already in dangerous terrain
. On a roll of 1, the unit
is destroyed with no save allowed, but the formation it is part of
does not receive a Blast marker.
Units may choose to move through dangerous terrain cautiously.
A unit that is moving cautiously counts as having a speed of
5cm, but is allowed to re-roll any Dangerous Terrain tests that it
fails.


To help me understand why I class it as the overwatching formation don't want to hit their own troops that are making the assault as they are too close for getting safe shots off (don't want to cause friendly fire).

I believe they should be as well.
However, as 5cm moves are treated as moving cautiously, in most instances they would be saved.

Technically they could re roll a DT test.

Can you move cautiously with a counter-charge or consolidation?

I can't really see a unit "cautiously counter-charging", likewise isn't the consolidation is meant to represent the movement during an assault? Can't see that being a time for caution either.

Well, DT tests only tend to apply to vehicles, often these can move 10cm in a counter-charge or in Eldar consolidation considerably further. The DT test (or cautious move) acts as a reasonable risk/constraint.

And I am less sure that consolidation represents movement during the assault - I thought Hack-down hits did that. I always understood that Consolidation was a post-assault activity, hence why consolidation back into air-transport is deemed to take place at the end of the turn and thus replaces disengagement.
