Post subject:  Newbie Questions.....

After my parents cleared out their loft....they discovered a very old space marine box epic battles and sent it down. They must of been from 20+ years ago!
Anyhow....mostly play 15mm stuff (I own armiesarmy small range) and thought Id give 6mm a go. I promised myself about a year ago after chatting to a nice bloke from dark realm miniatures I was going to try it, however finding literally hundreds of figures I have no further excuses!

Again...back to my questions:)

Basing - I have lots of the square bases with the set, however it seems that most people are using 40x15 or similar rather than the 20x20. Am I at any disadvantage if I decide to go against other basing ? In fact is it legal at all?

Base - Each base has 5 figures. For a standard infantry base -should I go with 5 equally armed marines or 4 and 1 heavy weapons. To me it seems I should have 2 standard, with 9 bolter and 1 heavy weapon man. I dont know why, just seems right? Suggestions?

Numbers - How many figures/points should I be aiming at to play say a club night game. Maybe 2-3 hours of play. More like 2

Finding opponents, my local club is Guildford and Ill probably find the odd player who will try the rules, however nothing is better than playing someone who plays regularly. So, is a list available for local players and local clubs who play it anywhere?

thanks all

re types of figures on the base.

mix them up as you wish, just make sure the devastaors bases are obviously seperate from the normal infantry.

(unit marking on edge of base?)

Welcome aboard, scall.

Square bases are perfectly legal. There may be a tactical advantage with strip bases, but in my experience it's minimal.

Many players designate tactical Marines with 1 heavy weapon and 4 regular Marines per stand and devastators with 2 heavy weapons and 3 regular marines. I do it 5 regular Marines for tactical and 1 heavy weapon plus 4 regular Marines for devastators.

If you want to play a game in about 2 hours, aim for a 2000 point army, or 2100 which makes the math easy for calculating points for allies.
