So I just started on my steel legion force, and I've got 3 modular werewolf SHT proxies to assemble, now SL can only take shadowswords, but I'm also planning a Krieg army, and I just think that stormblades look completely badass.....

are they? they seem like a decent enough choice, but are they normally worth taking? I'll probably get more SHTs for xmas, but I'm trying to get everything painted for the big WHW game on December 29th.... should I make any stormblades at this point or leave them for later? (if they suck, I might make a single one, just to paint and display...)

Also, can they do the same as warhounds and keep a shot 'in reserve' with their plasma blastguns? (I assume warhounds can still do this...?)

It's a special rule for the Warhound, the general rule is no, you fire the weapon or hold fire, no splitting shots from one weapon.

Not sure where you get this from?

They are exactly he same as Warhounds ie they can fire one and keep the other for the next turn

I personally dislike Stormblades. They are a jack-of-all-trades, master of none. They have neither the anti-WE power of the Shadowsword nor the AT/AP fire of the Baneblade. Each superheavy you take should have a set role, and taking a superheavy that suggests you can't decide on that role is dangerous, IMO.

Stormswords, however, are the shit.

I expected that tbh, they do seem like something of a halfway house.

Not being able to keep a shot in reserve means they're not as flexible as they could be I guess

You could always house rule it. I know I would let you. Since the Stormblade was not part of the official army lists, there was probably no need to rule it as for Warhounds.

Where does this come from? They can opt to save a shot for the next turn exactly like Warhounds

Steve: Warhounds can because of a note on the plasma blastgun. If the Stormblade doesn't have that note, then technically they can't.

Looks like I was wrong. I was dead certain that I had checked this earlier this year and seen a ruling that you can't 'save shots', with the warhound having a specific exception, but now I can't find it. I probably remember wrong.

The rules do talk about a weapon not being able to fire the turn after it has fired.

Fair enough, pretty nonsensical that they can't given its the same gun

I agree. I never realised they needed the note, but if they do why wasn't the note added to the Stormblade as well considering it's the same gun?

Steve54 - I notice the Epic-UK Imperial Guard Warhound can split shots as it has the note, but that the Space Marines Warhound can't. You might want to get that amended for consistency.

I'm not convinced that its not just an omission on the Stormblade

The note is probably because there's a FAQ for the Warhound specifically. It's also (I think) the only unit from the rulebook that has a weapon with both Slow Fire and multiple shots. Maybe the ruling on warhounds should be generalized to apply to all multishot slow fire weapons?

Well they should be able to, of course.

I would hope this is followed since the Stormblade is such a cool model.

Cheers

Meph, we should make a ruling on this. Can the rules team voice their thoughts on this (in a separate thread).
