Post subject:  Scouts and transports - formation cohesion question

Hi All

I wonder if anyone can clarify a point regarding scouts.

Quote:
2.1.12 Scouts
Some units are noted as being scouts. These units are trained to
operate on their own, scouting ahead of their formation to seek
out the enemy. Scout units only have to remain within 20cm of
another unit from their formation, rather than 5cm as would
normally be the case. In addition, scouts are trained to spread
out so they can cover a wide area, and so have a 10cm zone of
control. Note that these abilities only apply to scout units and
cannot be transferred to other units in the same formation or
transport units carrying the scouts.

Assuming you have a Space Marine Scout detachment with 2 rhinos providing transport in a single formation.

Each scout can be 20cm away from another unit in their formation. This does not apply to transports... How does this then apply to the transports?

The transports must be at most 5 cm from another unit in the formation... or must a rhino be maximum 5cm from a scout?

If 5 cm from any other unit in the formation one could place the 2 rhinos 5cm from each other, and then place the scouts 20 cm away from this transport placing...??

Any clarification would be appreciated

Cheers evil

What about if the formation was spread out in a line, such as...

rhino-20cm-scout-20cm-scout-20cm-rhino

would that be legal, or does the rhino have to be within 5cm of another unit?

The Rhino does have to be within 5cm of another unit in its formation, yes.

rhino-5cm-scout-20cm-scout-5cm-rhino-20cm-scout

Would be fine...hope that helps.

Thanks Mephiston

So as long as the rhino's are within 5cm of another unit in the formation, they are safe.

So,
rhino-5-rhino-20-scout-20-scout-20-scout

is fine since both rhinos are 5cm from another unit in the formation.

Incidentally, same applies to War Engines like an Ork Battlefortress carrying a Warband.
