Hello!

Sort of new guy here! Used to play a bit of EpicA years back, but it didn't work out that time. I craved the undead as I do in every game system and there was no such abundance of 6mm necron proxy minis as there is today.

The work of the illustrious Otterman and of the good people at Steel Crown Productions caught my eye and now I'm thinking of exactly what to I'll want as my options since my funds are finite. I'm aiming for 3k games first... when I'm tired of those I'll make more plans.

How about:
- Enough infantry for 3 phalangi with all options sans maybe wraiths (how can I get/make those?)
- 1 venator maniple & one light phalanx
- 2 pylons
- 4 monoliths & 10 obelisks seems like a reasonable amount of vehicles? Will I want more options?
- tomb complex & warbarque or two (need to make myself I suppose?)
- C'tan: deceiver seems like the obvious choice: c'tans are the only supreme commanders, right? In such an elite army that re-roll should be worth even that 300p. I already have some options on how to represent him on the table.

Things I'd leave for later:
- more of the previous
- destroyers
- abattoir & orb

Too little, too much? Have I got a clue? :)

Thanks for any replies,
- Lasse

For three Phalanx, get 2x Edenite infantry squads, 10x edenite riflemen, and 1x Assault Sergeant. That will give you enough minis for two phalanxes with 2x units of immortals and one with no upgrades.

For Obelisks and Monoliths, I'd originally planned on 8 monoliths and 12 obelisks to give me four detachments of 2x monoliths and 3x obelisks. Right now I've only got 6x monoliths which is enough for two decahments of 3x monoliths and 3x obelisks and one detachment of 6x obelisks which seems alright.

Tomb complex you need ot make yourself, but isn't too hard.

Remember that you can give Supreme Commander to one warbarque for +50 pts.

As for ideas of how to make it, I made mine out of two monoliths with some greenstuff in the middle, and I think it turned out OK. Actually, I had one 40k kid come over and say he wanted a big one like that for his 40k 'cron army, so it can't have been all bad.

I think you'll want at least 6 monoliths. 4 is a bit to little. You need to have redundancy in your portals, otherwise it'll be easy for your opponent to "lock you down". I have 6 monoliths, a tomb complex and a warbarque in my army for a total of 8 protals.
I've played 4 games with the army and I found that at the end of some games, the number of remaining portals was a problem.

Thanks for the all the tips, gentlemen! I had completely missed the warbarque's option in particular.

Am I to understand 8 portals at 3000 is usually well enough?

well I can't remember my counting it seems. I realized I only have 5 monoliths, I don't know where I got 6 from.
So I have 7 portals in total, which I think is fine.

cheers

I have 9 Monoliths as my portals in 3 groups of 3, each with an Obleisk or 2 as protection.
I don't usually use the Tomb Complex anymore (I want to use the points to kill the enemy).

I also like to use the Aeonic Orb (or Scythe class ship) because their large BP template attacks forces the opponent to space out their deployment which means the teleporting Monoliths and their Infantry Phalanxes can isolate enemy units and pick them off without having to face the castle defence (enemy deploys their entire army in one large block - not good for teleporting attacks).

I always have at least one Pylon.

I haven't really missed having the Supreme Commander ability when I take the Large Harvester engines. It's nice to have the re-roll (especially when trying to rally units that have phased out) but not essential to the army.

I have 1 Warbarque which I converted out of a 40K Destroyer model. I do like using Warbarques. Their Living Metal Armour and Skimmer ability have been most useful at times.

Hope that helps,
Steve.
