So far I've coped using a wide variety of things but I wonder how (or where) you got blast markers. The only thing fairly close to what I need is the BFG blast markers. That works. Just not as 'pretty' as the small cardboard 'fires' I never could lay my hands on. (a friend has those but he is only one out of 6 epic gamers I know...) |

Litko makes a bunch of kinds: http://www.litkoaero.com/page/LAI/CTGY/TS_BBS I've seen people use steel wool and washers to good effect too. I use small poker chips with 1 and 5 on each side. I might have an Epic40k ruleset (with blast markers) spare. PM me if you're interested. |

I got mine from the Epic 40,000 boxed set and I treat them like gold! For cardboard counters, they're the coolest I've seen. These are also cool. So are the Litko ones and those homebrew ones the others have posted. |

Plastic craft beads. I got one set for wounds and one for BMs. Priced at $5 for 300 or so. |

I second Litko - prices are reasonable, markers look cool and the customer service is simply awesome. They should be pretty durable too. |
