Assume 3 Baneblades in a formation, the farthest away carrying two damage points. Can my one Barrage template artillery choose to pick off the injured one or must I target the closest one to the firing unit?

You can place the Template anywhere you like.
And with W/E formations as far as im aware in cases like this the damage is assigned to the damaged one first until it reaches its full capacity and then onto the next.

This would imply that you DO NOT have to take casualties from under the template. That you could hit the front baneblade and the rear damaged one (up to 30 cm away actually) would take the hits.

This is wrong.

With a barrage, "you hit what you hit".
With conventional shooting, you apply hits up to the damage capacity of each War Engine before moving on, front-to-back.

Some examples:

- A Barrage is fired at a formation of Baneblades. The Template is placed centered on one Baneblade, and touching another.
The Baneblade under the centre of the template is attacked twice, and the Baneblade that is just clipped by the template is attacked once. Roll to hit individually, and roll armour saves individually.

- Normal shooting is fired at a formation of 3 Baneblades. 10 hits are scored. Hits are applied front-to-back according to damage capacity. The front Baneblade takes 3 hits, the middle Baneblade takes three hits, the rear Baneblade takes three hits. You've now reached the back of the formation so you return to the front and apply a hit to the front Baneblade, thus the Baneblade at the front has taken 4 hits total. Now you roll armour saves.

And unless I'm mistaken, existing wounds are irrelevant for hit allocation. If the front BaneBlade has already taken 2 wounds, it STILL gets allocated 3 hits. And if the back BaneBlade has two wounds, it CANNOT be assigned hits from normal shooting until both others have already been assigned hits equal to DC.

- Could be mistaken.

Hena is correct on the barrage placement - the first template must be placed to maximize the number of targets under it. Additional templates are also supposed to be placed to maximize hits on the initial target formation.

E&C is correct on the allocation. Barrage hits are assigned under the template, even if you are using the "speed rolling" shortcut.

And if a single barrage template can only hit one of the three WE in the formation then the firer can choose which WE he wants to hit and only it takes the damage. Right?
