Played a game last night, where a potential rules issue swayed the end result. My opponent moved a Rough Riders unit into Ruins on my side of the table. I did several strafing runs, and got a hit. He thought it was a 4+ cover save, until I thought about the way Mounted is worded. 2.1.10 Mounted Mounted units count as vehicles for terrain effects, and as infantry units for all other purposes. So, to be clear, Mounted Infantry (as I read it) means a) Can't claim Cover Saves. b) Can't claim Overwatch cover. c) Can't claim Armoured Vehicle cover. d) Makes Dangerous Terrain as if a Vehicle. While (d) is obvious, I'd never really thought about (a-c). That's a big list of penalties. Though he was able to weenie out a couple of times. "I get to move 5cm countercharge. I move 'cautiously'. I get to consolidate. I move 'cautiously' again." Found that quite funny. Morgan Vening |

The way I interpret it, moving cautiously is taking a speed reduction to avoid a potential danger. When a fast unit (like RoughRiders) is only allowed to move 5cm due to other rules, it just seems wrong from a realism perspective. A countercharging /consolidating unit is either going to move full pace to engage the enemy/seek cover, or move cautiously to avoid danger on the way in. I find it funny that for units like RoughRiders/Boarboys, it's the same distance I don't think it's a bad rule, and the weenie comment was mostly about the emphasis the player used when he declared the movements. Ever tried to charge through a forest on a horse? After 10m maximum you would either hit a tree branch or the horse will break its legs. |

Quote: (BlackLegion @ Nov. 15 2009, 14:47 ) Ever tried to charge through a forest on a horse? After 10m maximum you would either hit a tree branch or the horse will break its legs. If the forest is that congested, then surely it'd be impassable to most vehicles? While I wouldn't want to see RoughRiders charging 40cm through a forest, there's an issue IMO regarding potential losses. The problem stems from there being only three options for terrain coverage, DTT, no DTT, reroll DTT, and one option for minimization(5cm). (Corrected, thanks E&C) Mebee "Mounted units with a move greater than 15cm, can move 10cm when 'moving cautiously'."? I was considering halved, but Epic tends to avoid fractions. The 15cm criteria is to avoid any artillery pieces that may get Mounted, because that wouldn't fit. Morgan Vening |

Quote: one option for avoidance (5cm) Moving cautiously grants a re-roll, not a free move. |
