I'm trying to put together some "starting out" lists for Epic new-comers, so I thought I'd throw this out there for comments from the community. Lemme hear your thoughts.  :)

=== ORKS: Ghazgkhull’s Warhorde ===
Strengths: Large formations and cheap infantry.
Weaknesses: High Initiative rating means they often fail to execute orders that contradict the Ork nature.

One Ork Warband box set for ₤11.75/$20.00
One Ork Gunwagonz blister pack for ₤11.75/$20.00
One Ork Big Gunz blister pack for ₤14.70/$25.00
One Ork Character blister pack for ₤11.75/$20.00
Total spend: ₤49.95/$85.00

Here’s one possible 1,000-point combination of angry Ork:

Big-sized Warband (45 units, 850pts)
1 Warlord
8 Big Gunz
24 Boyz
8 Grotz
4 Nobz

Normal-sized Blitz Brigade (4 units, 150pts)
4 Gunwagonz

Tactica
Dese ’ere Orkz winz by destroyin’ daiz enemees ’olesale. Weez wantz ta Breakz Dair Spiritz! An’ den takez dair Blitz objectivez!

groov3r:  There was also a recent thread on 2000 point starter sets, including bumps up to 3000 points.

more for when your army is a bit larger and you want so variety from the plastic characters (they're still on the sprue right?)

Nope.

Only the Nobz are still on there; it's just Nobz, Boyz, and Grotz.

The starter pack concept is great for beginners.  As for the character pack, I'd say put a Nob and a couple of Boyz on a base with a banner and call it good.  Save a chunk of change, that way.

Thanks Neal and Dave. I guess I'm trying to highlight the low cost of entry, and a 1,000pts army (while not providing the full Epic experience) is about 36-42 quid rather than 70+ quid.  :)

I take your point, though, and will be sure to mention that they'll likely want to progress purchasing another one or two thousand points worth of units in short order.  :)
