Being new to actually playing Epic, (i've collected the miniatures for over 10 years)I have a qeustion to you long timers, especially the game designers.
Did you ever consider the possibilities of using the D10 in the system, instead of the D6.
I know that it would take work to go back and rethink all stats ,but with this in mind consider the posibilities... A little more precise difference in armour values between infantry and vehicles, etc.

As a GW product, Epic:A is unlikely to change from exclusively using d6. ?A game system based on d10 would be interesting, but it wouldn't be Epic:A. ?Feel free to come up with a set of rules, and post them. ?I'd be interested in them.

To answer your question, durring the play test this was discussed and JJ said no. It was an interesting discussion though.

Hi!

This was proposed MANY times for netepic. GW is fixated on the d6. Which is a shame. There are some good mechanics based on the decimal system. It gives you more leeway for bonuses than with a d6.

I used a decimal system for my Heresy system. I found it to be robust.

I have always liked a decimal or % system myself. I like the ability to offer slight veriations that a d6 system just can not model.

But then again, just because a system uses d10 or even d20 mean it uses the veriables wisely.  :p

D10 (or actually I prefer the D12 but thats the babalonian in me) does mean any modiefiers you have can be more varied and have less impact. In essence you get more leeway.

However JJ and GW design view in general is (probably partially correctly) that the D10 is an invitation for too many rules/not simple enough and though it does give constraints if you use a lot of D6's it all evens out in the end.

I believe JJ said it in a simple way, something like "I don't see the need for it". Or something along those lines.

Wish I had kept it. Darn.

I think that could be said about a lot of people.

I would like to see it, but D10s for Epic, or any other GW game for that matter, will never happen. Sometimes I think that the company that supplies dice to GW produces only D6s and is giving GW kickback not to switch from D6s. :D It would take a major rewrite, even for NetEpic, to work in D10s for everything.

One thing that I started working on many years ago (and should dig out and resume work on) is rewriting the Titan critical hit tables to D10 to make them a little more resilient. I've never liked the fact that once you strip away the shields, you can kill a Warlord from the front simply by rolling a "6" for critical damage on the reactor table. A 1-in-6 chance seems too high to me.

Yes,exactly. It would take some work to go back to every system and redo it for D10.
Also, the chance of taking out the Warlord by D10 (assuming you would need "0" to kill) would be of course 10% as "6" would be 17-18% chance.

I'm not sure if "joy" is the word I would use.  :p

The joy of using a d6 based system is that you can almost use real buckets of dice! :(8:

Who do you know has more than a couple of d10's? Do you know any set of more than three d10's, d20's or any other dice not d6?

The fun of a d6 based system is rolling 20 dice at once & counting your kills.

Me! I have four or so D10s, at least six D20s, about a dozen D8s and four or five D4s. That's what happens when you've played D&D as long as I have.  :D
