I'm starting up my Ork epic army, working through all of the infantry I have, and I took a look at my vehicles. I've heard and seen a few people base theirs, and it is a nice effect, that also helps to unify an army even more. I'm probably going to do it for my own vehicles, I just wanted to know how many others do it, and if so, why?

I do. They're easier to transport (magnetic bases), and make it easy to see when units are in to base to base with them (for -1 to hit). Plus, I think it looks better and helps protect the model and terrain.

Yes I base mine. It looks better (IMHO) and makes it easier to paint. It helps protect them from chips and scrapes if people pick them up by the base instead of the model.

Also if you want you can really add some dramatic effects to the bases by using bits of rubble and whatnot.

I don't because I'm lazy, mostly, but I've been considering it to reduce wear-and-tear on paint jobs and tank barrels.

I never have based my vehicles as I always thought it looked odd once they were on the tabletop.  There are a few exceptions, like with Ork buggies, scorchas, wartraks, and similarly sized vehicles.  Squiggoths in my force get based as well.

From a aesthetic standpoint, I think it looks far better to base everything and I can definitely see the argument for resolving who is in base-to-base contact.  Wear and tear never has been an issue for me as most of my models get a few coats of gloss varnish followed by matte.

LVs I base.  It makes them easier to handle and identify on the board and some, like the SM Speeder, require it.

AVs, nope.

I have been toying with the idea of basing my Ork Fortresses, though.  I have a bunch of the old Gibletgrindas and Skullhammas and they suffer in comparison to the new Forts.  Basing could help give all of them a similar on-board presence.

Nope, unless it's small, like a Trike, or is a walker.

Another no here; I like the more 'natural' look that not having a base on a tank gives when it's on the tabletop...that said landspeers, sentinels, attack bikes etc DO get based.
I'm considering baseing a few things though; like 'nid bio tanks for BtB contact reasons...

I base all mine, and each army has their own theme to the bases.

Since my armies as such are at the moment more of a hodgepodge collected from ebay, some are based and some are not. Flesh Tearers' tanks I've managed to paint so far aren't based yet. If I feel like basing when I'm done with a large number of them, I'll do that but I doubt it.

I don't base unless it is strictly necessary for stability. Although it can look really nice when you look at the models themselves, I always found it a bit unflexible when it came to terrain. It just keeps looking goofy to me that my tanks keep driving about on a small turf of grass in the middle of a ruined city or vice versa :p

Hmmm... have any pics?  I'd be very interested in seeing that!

Vehicle basing is for crazed people with lots of talent not lazy people with more miniatures than sense. So I don't base my Vehicles unless they are small and even then they only get the basic slap of paint... if their lucky.
