If, say a Wraithlord, which has no small arms listed, is involved in a firefigh;, does it use it's brightlance?

If so, can it use it's 'Lance' ability?

The special ability would have to be on a Small Arms weapon or in the notes for it to be used in an assault. So no, no Lance in FF.

Small Arms really don't need to be listed on unit profiles unless the unit has no other shooting attack (it would have to be listed then for purposes of suppression) or if they need a special ability.

(small arms) is really just there for completeness and aesthetics, or FF special rules. The lack of a small arms weapon means nothing - if it has a firefight value it can firefight. It doesn't use other weapons and their special abilities, sorry.

I thought I saw somewhere that if you have Assault weapons but no Small Arms, then you couldn't FF?

If you have a FF score you can firefight. Whether a small arms weapon is on the data sheet is irrelevant with that regard. Again, they only really need to be listed if the unit has no other shooting attacks or if they have a special ability associated with them.

Consider this, many units don't have a Assault Weapon in their profile, yet they can still fight in base to base.

Could you elaborate on this suppression thing?

Sure.

If a unit has no shooting attack but has small arms on its sheet (all of which have a range of 15cm) it can be suppressed if it's within 15cm of an enemy unit in the formation being fired upon. So with some careful arranging you can have units with shooting attacks in the same unit take some shots if your within 15cm and they're up front.

The only requirements for suppression is that the firing unit has LOS and is within range to the target.

This doesn't come up to often though.

That was in  one of the original versions of the E:A rules. But that was pulled out years ago.

I think it was mentioned in the rules preview that was in Epic Magazine although I could be wrong.
