This one's probably very easy to answer but I can't find an answer either way in the rulebook. So, rulesmeisters, can I take two warhounds as two separate formations or do they come as a single 'battlegroup'?

It depends on the individual army list. All of the lists I can think of do allow you to take them either singly or as a pair, but there might be one where you can only take them as a pair.

Your choice with warhounds, buy them single or as a pair.

The only scout titans that must be bought as a pair are revanants iirc.

Thanks guys.   :D  I assume you're guys...

Unless they start getting mobbed in close combat I think I'll take them on their own for that extra activation and flexibility. I'll know if that's a good decision after some games tomorrow   .

I felt it alvays as unjust

is it realy justified ?

i thought about it as taking off some of the flavour
iwould prefer 1 formation of 1 or 2 ravenants - is ravenant popcorn would be a problem

Yes, they can be two separate formation, often a good idea!

Edit: Wow, 4 replies since I clicked "reply"... get with the times, man.

Turned out we only used one in the game anyway. I've no idea if he was likely to get swamped in combat as my opponent (playing his first game) left him out of cover when he deployed and the poor thing got shot to bits before it had time to activate!

Warhounds have good firepower and speed, so tend to be doubled forwards early in the game in an attempt to disrupt an unactivated enemy formation. This has both the effect of reducing the enemy activation while also providing something to soak up further activations in an attempt at destroying it. Usually the shields absorb some of the damage resulting in the Warhound surviving broken and galloping elsewhere for safety. then they tend to l;urk around the edge of the battlefield lookig for other "soft" targets to shoot up.

However, they have quite weak armour (5+RA), so like many WE they will die if assaulted (because CC hits ignore any shields and go straight onto the armour).

For 2000-3000 point games the single warhounds provide tough deep striking (fearless) activations. For bigger battles though I strongly recommend the pair, with the WE hit allocation rules making them surprisingly tough to shoot up.

For general purposes though singles are as good as if not better than artillery batteries with the ability to double and shoot for a total range of 105cm's from their starting point. 2 MW3+ and 4 AP4+/AT6+ is not to be sneezed at and odds on you will be broken so recharging isn't an issue :)
