I am curious, has anyone broken the 1000 man rule for a space marine chapter? It was my plan to build a legion. Until, I was re-reading my rulebooks and came across the little fact that a chapter contained 1000 boots. I was hoping not to have to make multiple chapters. I wanted to be able to feild alot of guys from the same chapter. My friend and I do not play small.  }:) Although, epic army sizes seem to be getting smaller as each new version comes out. Any thoughts.

My second question is also about army size restrictions. Are there any for eldar? My buddy is amassing an eldar army, the likes of which, I have never seen. I know they are out of EA at the moment. I was just curious.

We were having this discussion a while ago, about Marines and their fleet for Gothic. The 1000 bodies is a fact which should be bend until broken. The original numbers were ten companys, or ten squads with ten men (Rogue Trader days). Now, this is all well and good, but ignores Dreads, tank drivers, support staff, command staff, chaplains, janitors and dinner ladies and so on. Additionally, Chapters such as the Space Wolves have loads of Marines, and the numbers also depend on casualties, and recruites and scouts, etc. So, I would not stick to the exact figure as a hard rule.

The thing about Epic forces getting smaller each edition is something that I was thinking about the other day. First edition had a great command and army structure, 40K was more compact and now EA looks to be 8-10 stands + support. Who knows, a couple more generations and we will be pushing the guys round the board individually!  :o

As for Eldar, I dont know about size restrictions. I guess that you are referring to the number of the guys with sharp sticks. I guess that it would depend on the CraftWorld. I can see Iyanden being smaller, but there are no hard laws for this.

Signius,

Go to:
http://www.games-workshop.com/40kuniv....ORS.pdf

In this very well done overview of the Marines they show two things.

1) in the chapter TO&E they list 10 squads per Company but then list "Bikes", "Dreadnaughts", "Land Speeders", All Command Marines (Captain, Chaplin, etc), Rhino Crew, and many others as separate listings. Even to the point that the Scout Company does not even list the number of squads.

2) They say that not all chapters follow the "book" as closely as others. So I would say do as you see fit. Besides if everything other then your Terminators, tactical, devastators, and assault do not count to that 1,000 man limit you could still field quite a large force points wise before you hit the limit. I mean think about it this way, 10 Terminator Squads alone are how many points?

Hi!

Net epic pays lip service to the 1000 man rule, but thats about it. I personally base my forces on Heresy era numbers of unlimited chapter size. Therefore most of my epic forces belong to an oversized Ultramarine chapter, although I'm starting an imperial fist one.

I dont think anyone should hamper themselves by this bit of fluff.

Ok, I know you are saying it doesn't matter. But how big an army are we talking about? 10, 20, 30 companies? How big are your armies, roughly? My dream is to reach a strength of ten thousand men. Am I dreaming. I have been going through the pain of gluing and forming companies. I have alot. I'll have a more accurate count soon.

The new Swordwind files are posted:

And they appear to be in colour!   Does anyone know if any errata was done for them?

Cool.  I also like the layout.  Having 4 pages per sheet (front and back) will save space in my army list Notebook of Doom.

I have no idea if they included errata.

Any reason they were made with two pages shown on one page?
