Okay, what if an infantry unit with no ranged weapons (small arms only), goes into overwatch? How do you handle it when this detachment gets assaulted? Do they get a FF Overwatch attack before the enemy gets into base to base? Or what? I can't find anything in the rules on this. my 2 cents, iblisdrax |

I would say the units gain nothing. They fight in the assault as normal (no shoot first or anything). The overwatch rules say "resolve the shooting attacks using the normal rules". The normal shooting rules do not allow FF attacks. IMO if the formation had no units with ranged weapons at all they shouldn't even be eligable to go on overwatch. |

Yeah, but I would think that they would get Some kind of bonus for being on overwatch, because they were in essence 'waiting' for the assault to take place. I dont know what that bonus should be, whether a free FF attack or what. my 2cents, iblisdrax |

I agree with Crimson Fury. As the rules stand the unit gains nothing. Its an interesting idea, I don't think anyone brought it up during playtesting. |

SM1 - +1 to hit, on FF ... it may or may not work with E:A ... |

With E:A I think a free FF attack _before_ the assault is worked out but _after_ the enemy has made the assault move (wait until you see the whites/reds of their eyes...) would be the right choice. If anyone wants to charge a detachment on overwatch he should pay the price. |

Hmm, maybe a simple little rules amendment giving detachments with NO ranged weapons (that Have a FF value) that go into overwatch a First Strike attack in the event that they are engaged. What do you guys think? my 2cents, iblisdrax |

I think they would get to put 1 BM on the attacking formation. Units with only small arms are still allowed to shoot normally, they don't roll any attacks but they do put 1 BM on the formation for coming under fire. It's not much but it could potentially give you +2 to the assault resolution (romoving "Your formation has no Blast markers (+1)" from the enemy and adding "Enemy has more Blast markers ?(+1)" to you) |

Yeah, but I still think that a formation that is ready and waiting (perhaps hiding, ambushing) should get more than just a BM for being on overwatch. Especially a formation used primarily in the assault. Perhaps a house rule is in order here for my group. ![]() my 2cents, iblisdrax |

Overwatch is actually a "real military" term ... however, I believe in E:A's case, waiting in ambush or simply waiting in hasty defensive positions, in cover etc., to shoot at a target that in comes into the unit's FoF and range. ?Remember that a unit on Fire Fire (SM1 & 2) or Overwatch is basically not moving and are going to use their ranged weapons ... |

Infantry units on overwatch get a 5+ cover save. This helps everyone, even units with no ranged weapon attacks. I like the idea of giving overwatching units First Strike. |

Yes, that's the way it was in SM1, Infantry on First Fire orders, got a cover bonus ... Infantry lying down prone and/or in a hasty defensive posture under cover/concealment are harder to see, hence harder to hit ... rules like this adds a little "realism" to the game. ![]() |

Where is that 5+ save for overwatch at in the rules? Because I've been looking in my rulebook and I can't find it. If it is in there somebody give me a section or page number and I'll slap myself upside the head again. ![]() my 2cents, iblisdrax |

There is a mention of it (5+ save) in the q/a section under, COVER SAVES!! It also mentions infantry hiding 'as if in ambush' in this section. So I would agree that overwatch should give some bonus. Have faith, kill Orks! |
