Edit - woops wrong title this is my lost and dammed list.

I am getting close to finishing painting my nurgle army

http://www.tacticalwargames.net/cgi-bin....t=11464

(I will have to get around to taking some more pictures when its fully finished).

Last night I finished my first 3000pt game with them.  I found the list I used played very differently than other armies I am used to using.

My List was:

4 Cultist Warhosts
1 with a Huge Altar Warmachine
2 with the upgrade that keeps daemons around and ground transporters
and one minimal formation with no upgrades

Fairly large daemon pool ~20 daemons and a greater daemon.

Traitor Artillery
Traitor Sentinels
Traitor Thunderbolts
Nurgle Artillery Tanks

Also some plague zombies.

The game was against Eldar in very heavy urban terrain and the way the game played fitted quite nicely with the fluff with the Eldar zooming around my army making strikes here and there with me just holding on using superior numbers.

The game ended up taking 8 turns as every time I managed to break a few of the eldar units and get an advantage for a turn I would fail to activate every single unit for the turn, do absolutely crap all and fail to capitalize on the advantage.  Of course the Eldar would regroup and start trying different ways to try and knock my units off one by one.

Kim actually managed to charge me with two bases of striking scorpions and defeat a large cult cover with daemon support which was one of the craziest moments in the game.

I think it was well deserved revenge for the cheezy way in which I wiped out one of her tooled up Guardian warhosts though.  Getting frustrated with continuously failing to activate with a tooled up cultist formation with the Greater Daemon of Nurgle and Chaos Altar I moved it forward when it failed to activate to get it into firefight range so that I could charge her with my single remaining plague zombie just so I would get the firefight.

I had fun but I don't know if I can handle playing armies with such low initiative ratings regularly.  I failed a ridiculous number of activations during the game.  It meant the game just kept on going on forever as I had done enough damage to the elder that they couldn't win but then I couldn't get any victory conditions because I couldn't get anything to do what I wanted.

Edit - Just added a couple of pictures from the game

End of Turn 1

End of Turn 2

Sweet looking table there, Mark!

Hmmm... first off, I *think* you mean you're using Lost and the Damned, not Black Legion up in the thread title...  *laugh*

Cultists are a tough army to use, lots and lots of low quality troops backed up by some nasty "armour".

Since it looks like your entire army is Nurgle or Undivided, remember that, though they start with 3+ initiative, if there are no hated allied formations within 30cm they get +1 to their rolls, giving them, in essence, a 2+ initiative.

More to come!

Cheers Chroma yes I meant Lost and Dammed.  I completely forgot about the bonus to initiative.  That definitely makes the army much more user friendly.  It was getting rediculous when I though I had to roll a 4 to activate a unit with blast markers on it.

It may sound weird, but I'm *glad* your forgot the initiative bonus; it means the wording of the rule works the way it is intended: "the Chaos player must remember to include the bonus, not the opponent remembering a penalty".

I look forward to your next report!  LatD are one of my favourite armies, and few people field them so it's a nice/scary surprise for opponents!

L&D are next on my list of to do's. Interesting, thanks for the report, and like Chroma says, the rule is obviously working as Jervis intended! :D

What faction are you going to do?  Looking forward to seeing it.

I am hoping to finish up the last few bits of painting and get another game in over the next week.  I really like that the army plays exactly as I imagine this army acting on the battle field from a fluff perspective so I am really happy with the list.

I have never been able to justify spending points on daemons in my Black Legion - Khorne list as I find you are always able to buy something better that gives you an extra activation.  I like the fact that I can use a heap of daemons in this army and they fit in better with the list, making the big week infantry formations into something truly formidable.

Eventually I am going to do up some of the other chaos factions and I will try a few mixed faction lists.  Should be a whole new interesting challenge to try and keep factions appropriately separated and get the initiative bonus while still acting as a cohesive whole and providing support to each other.

All factions :) simply by having all the daemons available, and keeping the rest of it fairly neutral, but with some clearly identifiable themed formations/units also.

However to start off with the Slaanesh will probably hit the table first :)

I also need to do an order to SG for the Warmaster GD at some point. I have the familiars from ages ago, but will upgrade them at some point.

I completely agree with this... it's rare for me to put daemons in a Black Legion list, but I love them with my Cultists!

Nice table !  And when I play Chaos forces, I rarely use deamons. I know it's part of the Chaos forces' "Charm" ... but I'd rather spend the points on more "corporeal" weapons ! :D And I have the old familairs for GDs and all the metal and plastic LDs since SM1 on ...     Painted and ready ...

I am definitely trying to work out a style of play that works with these guys using a reasonable amount of daemons to make if distinct from the other armies that I play.

All factions :) simply by having all the daemons available, and keeping the rest of it fairly neutral, but with some clearly identifiable themed formations/units also.

See that is smart!  I have set about doing separate cultist formations for every faction, which is just crazy.

Planning on giving these guys another test tonight with a slightly modified list.

We still use the SM1 Cultists TO&Es, which can fight alone or along side CSM TO&Es/forces.
