Was going over Markconz's rulebook this morning and I came across the following in the planetfall section:
Remember that any formations that have landed by planetfall and scattered out of formation must move back into a legal formation when they take an action.
And I had to wonder, how could this situation ever occur? ?Is there a formation that consists of multiple units with planetfall so that each individual scatters? Or is this in the rules just for "thoroughness"?

None of the official lists need it, but it could happen with many of the playtest or fan lists.
Tau can have 2 Morays in a formation which may scatter apart Hena's Scions of Iron have multiple Thawk Transporters in a formation My Ravenguard list has planetfalling Speeders The "planetfall" tunneler variants have multiple units per formation

I think that's correct. But most of the planetfalling models are either war-engines with single-model formations, or in drop pods so they follow those rules. Only multi-unit/model formations making standard planetfalls would suffer individual scatter, as I understand it.

The point to note here is the difference between planetfalling a formation (or more) inside a single transport of some kind and planetfalling a formation of separate units.
Landing Craft, drop ships Drop Pods (or even the ORK drop Rok) are treated as a single unit when planetfalling so scattering only applies once (after which the troops disembark). However a formation of Tau Morays etc may comprise several units each of which is scattered separately, and which thus could end up out of coherency.
