Ok, my friend and I plan on doing some demo games at the local GW shop and gaming stores, just to get some interest going. He's going to play his IG, and I'll be playing my Space Marines. IG are great for epic demos, but anyone getting the poo kicked out of them is pretty neat too. He's doing a mostly-mechanized force, so it shouldn't be *that* hard to beat him. The problem is that his mechanization is fairly well set up. Here's what he's got: -6 baneblades -3 shadowswords -6 Deathstrikes -12 hellhounds -6 thunderbolts -13 basilisks -2 bombards -9 manticores -9 hydras -10 leman russ tanks He has no titans, but that's enough artillery and SHT to make me want to kill myself. We'll be playing 2700 point games, and I'd like some help with my space marines. Should I go all drop pods? Air assault? Teleport? Regular mobile marines? His list's glaring weakness is CC, I'm just not sure how to capitalize that. I have all SM formations available to me, the only real limits being that I have 2 terminator formations and 1 scout formation. I also have a squad of thunderbolts and a squad of marauders, but judging by his unit choice, I won't be taking any aircraft. Here are the lists I've been thinking about so far: List 1: All ground forces -Tactical Detachment (3 Rhinos, Hunter) - 375 points -Tactical Detachment (6 TLC Razorbacks, Hunter) - 525 points -Tactical Detachment (3 Rhinos) - 300 points -Terminator Detachment (Captain) - 375 points -Terminator Detachment - 325 points -Devastator Detachment (2 Land Raiders) - 450 points -Scout Detachment (2 Rhinos) - 150 points -Land Speeder Detachment - 200 points 8 Formations, 55 units List 2: Titans included! -Warlord Titan - 850 points -Tactical Detachment (4 TLC Razorbacks, 1 Rhino, Supreme Commander) - 500 points -Tactical Detachment (Hunter) - 375 points -Terminator Detachment (Chaplain) - 375 points -Scout Detachment (2 Rhinos) - 150 points -Bike Detachment (Captain) - 250 points -Bike Detachment - 200 points 7 formations, 42 units List 3: Death from above -Thunderbolt Squadron - 150 points -Marauder Squadron - 300 points -Tactical Detachment (4 TLC Razorbacks, 1 Rhino, Hunter, Captain) - 525 points -Tactical Detachment (3 Rhinos) - 300 points -Tactical Detachment (3 Rhinos) - 300 points -Terminator Detachment - 325 points -Bike Detachment (Captain) - 250 points -Bike Detachment - 200 points -Assault Detachment - 175 points -Assault Detachment - 175 points 10 formations, 56 units We won't be able to see eachother's lists before the games, so I want something that will be versatile and will be able to handle whatever army his models can put together (which is ALL TANKS!) I want to fit in some Annihilators, but I'm not sure where. Any suggestions? |

He's not taking any IG infantry? ?I know they suck, but they do protect your tanks and there are alot of them. ?Anyhow, assuming that he doesnt, take list no. 3 and kick the cr@p outta him from the air. ?That is what I'd do. ?Especially if he spreads his detachments a little too much, then you will smack him down hard. my 2cents, iblisdrax |

No Infantry !!! Madness !!! Too bad E:A fell back into what many games of the past have ... making Grunts of little use. That was one of the things that first attracted me to SM1 ... infantry could actually do some things that they were supposed to do. And that is not a mechanized force, he is taking, it is an armored force. A Mech force by definition is Infantry in tracks ... with some tank support if he's lucky ... ![]() |

Um... That's not his army list, guys. That's what he has to choose from. Mich: I'd go with list 1, with a couple mods. 1) Drop the razorbacks and hunter from the tac formation. It's an okay base of fire unit, but if you are going that route, you will get more bang from devastators. I prefer to keep the tacs as multi-functional as possible. 2) Drop the LRs with the devs, replace them with razorbacks. It's the same amount of AT fire for half the price. It's also faster at deploying, and since you can't garrison with the transports, you really need to get to your firing position in your first move. I would also replace the Hunter cut from the tacs in this formation. 3) At this point, you've got some extra points left (~250, plus whatever leftover you had). I would strongly consider preds for a lot of AT fire without much cost. I would also consider adding a commander to the tacs or the other termie formation. With the termies, it will make a wicked 2 formation/commander/chaplain assault. A commander with the tacs would give you a second multi-formation assault. If it came down to it, I would drop the scouts to fit the preds and commanders in. Just my personal preference, though... ![]() |

Groan - wish I could, but it's a bit far from Malta.... Hadn't seen the reports, thanks for the link Chris. I like your army list, although I'd probably have tried to include more flyers myself - can't resist them, even if it goes beyond tactical considerations! |

Although Dysartes already knows this, no Vault lists are currently being allowed but that will probably change depending on who wants use to use their toys using those lists. ![]() |

http://www.sheffieldwargames.com/Mainpage.htm Cod. It is. And I'm locked into going to Liverpool on the hunt for old uni mates, alcohol and metal. Ceasefire's gone (ooo, that's a bit bitter comment), Partizan only has so much of interest for me, and I'm missing Triples this year. Pah. Just the Club Challenge and Macclesfield Manouvers for me this year then. |
