Hi - having browsed these forums I've come across loads of stuff about experimental rules, house rules and new rulesets so I'm wondering if someone could enlighten me as to the current status of the main ruleset and where it is heading...

It looks like there's been a move towards what happened in the Blood Bowl community where a rules committee was developed to keep on top of the game with living rule books coming out every two-three years. Is this the same with epic? And if so, who are the committee members?

In the BB community there has always been involvement from GW and the volume of playtesting is pretty huge -- I'd guess that's not the same with epic which seems to be a much smaller affair. Oh, and I'm not saying the dev of BB is perfect (but it is pretty good), over the yars there have been loads of controversies, vested interests, biases, forum falling outs, toys thrown from prams etc. but that goes with the territory!

So, what's happening? Who's who and how are things being tested? If you're  an 'Army Champion?' (a loaded term if ever I heard one!), a rules lawyer or a rule book editor here's an open invitation to you to introduce yourself, set out your 'game philosophy' (fun or tournament, balance or fluff etc etc...).

Over to you...

Hello Levinas:  Glad you're interested.

It looks like there's been a move towards what happened in the Blood Bowl community where a rules committee was developed to keep on top of the game with living rule books coming out every two-three years. Is this the same with epic? And if so, who are the committee members?

That's more or less the intended plan for Epic as well.  The Epic Rules Committee (ERC) was set up right about the time the rulebook went to print.  Individual army lists were assigned champions which were originally intended to simply collate feedback and make suggestions but eventually became the de facto developers for their respective armies.

The original goal was a review every 1-2 years for both core rules and army lists - make changes, let the rules sit for 1 year to let the bugs shake out, issue a revision and repeat.  As Hena noted, there have been some practical issues.  Andy and Jervis are aware and are supposedly working on a method for sorting it all out.

The ERC is: Greg Lane, David McLeod (Sotec/Tepoc), and me.   However, David is virtually retired.  There have been nominations for new members.  Nothing has happened officially on that (there's a whole lot of background on that), but I am hopeful that once Andy and Jervis have their convocation that we can move ahead.

The Answer Mods on the SG boards are Lord_Inquisitor and me.

Several of the army champions have fallen off the map.  As of right now, the list for the official lists is:

Core Rules Champion:  Greg Lane
SM:  MIA
IG:  Francois Desmadryl (Francois), MIA
Orks:  Me
White Scars: never had an assigned champion
Speed Freeks: Tim Hunt (tiny tim)
Eldar:  Kevin Petker (Chroma)
Ferals:   Tim Hunt (tiny tim)
Siege IG: Chris [apologies for Chris as I've blanked on his surname] (The Real Chris)
Black Legion:  Zac Belado (Pixelgeek)
Lost and Damned:  Audrey Ewing (Wraeththu)

As far as the rules status, I've collected all the official and semi-official changes and the FAQ clarifications into 2 documents - rules and units/army lists.  It contains brief summaries of the issues, discussion and proposed change.  Most importantly, it has reference as to how "official" the various changes and experimental rules are.  The link is in my signature.  A revision (v 1.1) with editorial changes and clarifications is pending.

ps, there are ACs for the lists in development, but I'm running late for a meeting.  I'll let someone else introduce them.

Well that's a pleasant surprise! ? *laugh* ?I knew it was coming, didn't know it had arrived. ?*laugh*

I'm also "Acting Tyranid Champion" at the moment, with Jaldon as primary Army Champion, but MIA for almost a year. ?In our last discussions, we had been negotiating a "joint" Championing of the Tyranids, but I haven't heard from him in a long time, so I've just been evolving along...

If I can take this opportunity to remind all champs to find 'back-up' champs so we don't end up with orphaned lists.  You may join a monastary, die, add a child or two to your family, or otherwise find yourself unable to meet the duties of such.  Find somebody who is of like mindedness who is willing to take over for whatever reason and add their name to the list.

Btw, if you want the names of the AC's for the lists, they should be here with the lists themselves.
