Not so much the game system itself (although I'm sure it still has its supporters), but its presence on the GW website. Has anyone else noticed that the majority of the Epic references are for 40K and not Armageddon. Whether it be on the Fanatic sub-website, Forgeworld or in the texts and links of the main site, it still has a major presence. You would have thought that the least GW could do to promote a new games system was to do a bit of online spring cleaning.

Hi!

Its just sheer laziness IMO. They have not had the inclination or desire to update all the old references to reflect the new game.

I doubt a minor game in a minor division like fanatic means much in their overall business plan.

If it isn't core, they dont pay it much mind.

I get the feeling that the new logo design is a low priority.  From his side remarks, I think Jervis was pushing it along for a while, but it ended up on the backburner anyway.

Overall, I'd say it's a pretty minor deal.  It's not as if they are going to lose the tons of money they spent on branding... :p

Hi,

A space marine player I know was wondering quite a bit about this subject:

How do you deal with large formations of infantry hiding out in ruins/buildings or whatever.

I'll give two sample formations and look see what ideas people have for finishing them off:

A standard 13 stand Imperial Guard comapny on Overwatch in ruins/rubble (4+ cover save) with a Comissar and 4 Support Weapons.

An Ork warband of 16 Orks, 4 nobz, and 8 grotz with 6 stormboyz/kommandoes. This mob has doubled to a ruins/rubble place too.

That is too vague a situation to give a detailed answer.  What SM forces do you have availible to deal with each threat?  One unit, support , what?  Hard to give an answer without details....  ???

I agree, outline the Marine force as well. What formations do I have available to me?

Hmmm ... watch the History Channel and pick up a book on combined arms warfare ! ?Before assaulting a fortified position (like troops in ruins/structures), soften up the target by using artillery and airstrikes. Continue to attrite the enemy with direct fire assets, like tanks and support weapons. Once the enemy has been significantly reduced, charge into close assault ... ? ?Simple, yes ... ? ? :;):

Well I was thinking that people could compose their ideal force (perhaps saying there's a 2 formation limit) for dealing with such a problem.

Legion 4:
Hehe.. good plan probably - but that would mean you'd tie down almost 4 formations to do a single imperial guard company.

Air power is useful to hit with blast markers. A bomber would be very nice fro this job.
Variation on L4 suggestion.
Talk nicley to the Navy :)

You're going to have to use enough assets to clear those entrenched troops. If you try to go toe-to-toe with those guys, before you soften them up you'll lose a lot of troops ...  I undestand about activation, we have been using it since SM1 in '90. In our system SMs have Whirlwinds, mortars and Thud Guns for artillery plus Thunderhawks and aircraft and off-board support (SM1)[ Which is very similar to using BFG ships in E:A]  ...

But that is how marines operate.... check out Incoming! Issue #19 and see the battle report against the Tau. An inferior marine force is faced off against greater numbers of Tau. On the right flank was a Firewarrior detachment from the Hunter Cadre, we are looking at 8 infantry supported by 4 devilfish. The attack was initiated by a bombardment from a Thunderhawk, which then dropped off 4 assault marine stands. A tactical detachment moved in to assist.

Now I know you are thinking 'But that is 675 points to take out a tiny part of the enemy force', however, the marines strength is there speed. Doug knew that there was a tactical detachment coming for him, what he didn't know was that I was gonna launch a blitzkreig attack using air and mobile infantry to take the objective and neutralise his flank. He had to keep his line balanced and was caught off guard, I used devestators to pin down the left flank, land raiders to feint an armoured push from the centre.

If the game had continued I would have rolled the flank to assault the centre - that was where my terminators plan to teleport in, but a cranial meltdown convinced me that I I had taken a unit that I couldn't afford points wise (which proved wrong) so the game ended with the marines in a slightly dicey situation.

I totally agree with L4, it doesn't matter that you are using 4 formations against the enemies one formation. In fact concentration of assets is one of the most important tactics you can use. The mobility of the marines is there main feature - meaning they can concentrate assets better than almost anyone (with the exception of Eldar).

Yes, MASS is one of the principles of War ... Tom did his homework. ?Remember E:A is modern combined arms warfare ... not Warmaster or WHFB or even 40K ... :;):

Of course if it was 40k we were talking about then use the below tactics:

Marines: Sit on a hit, shoot anyone coming close
All other armies: Charge, meet in the middle for a CC brawl. He who yells 'Dakka dakka' the loudest wins.

:P
