Wonder if they're going to do a new line of Epic Horus Heresy. Take us back to Epic history :D

It's a nice dream I think.

it would make sense to do a tester box - they must have made thousands on the panicking buying.

no it wouldn't.

It would be a distraction from their core 28mm buisness. Money spent on that box would NEVER translate into sales of the core 28mm range.

A 28mm scale Inquisitor or Necromunda might be considered, but not anything that isn't compatible with more sales of the profit generators in time.

And a dream is all it is, alas.

Took one look at the new (and not very exciting!) eldar knight model for 40k. I can see why they (GW) dont want to have competition for the large 40k kits. That thing is huge, which would stand for reason they dont want people with over stuffed shelves going for smaller scales.

I'm just laughing at this may well be the end for 40k, not because sales are down ( I see hundreds of people on facebook/the web desperate to drop huge cash bundles for the new eldar) but because very soon people are just going to plain run out of space to field the models that are just getting bigger and bigger.

Cant wait to see how huge the space marine kits are come the next re-release. 40k players are going to have to ditch their furniture to fit them in their front rooms. Come 7th edition, apocalypse games will just be silly.

Scale creep is gone. Its head on full blast scale engorgement now.

(well, maybe engorgement is the wrong word!! :o )

Cease & Desist orders are free, regardless of their legal rigor... or lack thereof.

So how about the the pirate/ship game they did that was a one off? I hear blood bowl is to be re-released not to far in the future? How would these/did they directly translate to 28mm sales of WFB and and 40k?

Don't get me wrong, I think you are right in that it wouldn't get re-released.

Blood bowl probably has about the same chance of me being crowned emperor of the known universe.
1.) that same rumor comes up every spring for the last few years now (actually even before Dreadfleet that was the rumor)
2.) after the debacle that Dreadfleet was they'll probably be quite gunshy about trying limited box sets again
3.) the BB market is totally full of characters and lines from other manufacturers so GW has little to offer competition with a one off set
4.) Dreadball. Totally kills the option of a SciFi spin on it. Mantic has that wrapped up well.

I think they’ll keep making one-off games, if only to keep their game writers entertained enough not to jump ship. Sure, Dreadfleet sold poorly, but it wasn’t a great game and didn’t have an existing fanbase waiting to be thrown a bone.

I got my GW order last week containing just two steam gargants and no Orkasaurus. The Orkasaurus was in stock when ordered so I was a bit peeved when it didn't turn up.

My first FW order turned up containing a very old Space Marine Land Raider Transporter, as somebody else mentioned mine looked like it'd been sat gathering dust in a box somewhere, and what looked like a very recently cast SM Rhino Transporter. Both models are very crisp casts with no defects.

My other FW order remains in limbo. Still at least FW had the decency to take the money off my CC three weeks ago and, IIRC, it isn't legal doing that. I'm seeing what happens with that order (two Marauder bombers and a pack of Vultures) before I set my CC company on them.

As for Epic being reborn as a one off game like Space Hulk or Dreadfleet, I just can't see that happening. Sure it sortof makes sense to do the HH in Epic like 1st edition but, as others have said, why would GW want people to buy into that and not from 40k/WHFB?

If GW do another one off boxed game I can see it being Advanced Heroquest as that's fully compatible model wise with WHFB.

I could see AHQ and Space Crusade/Tyranid Attack being done. They were self contained box games which Space Hulk, unlike dreadfleet (a mutant Cad of Man'o'War) was self contained. In addition the figures are 28 mm so have range of use.

My opinion on legitimate candidates for limited release box games:
Blood Bowl with only 2 teams
Warhammer Quest
Ridiculous mutant version of BFG - dreadfleet in space, with all that implies.

I'd love an official version of killteam (galaxy-spanning version of necromunda) or warhammer skirmish (world-spanning Mordheim) but I doubt those will happen. If they did a killteam box correctly, people would be motivated to get more than one box just to get extra terrain or enough of the special minis to run a full 40k army (like people do with the chaos cultists in the 40k box set). But who am I to question the non-logic from Notingham.

I'm still mad they never gave epic a fair shake - not giving indy retailers a reasonable retail markup from the beginning showed the GW was never serious about any of the SG games.

semajnollissor:

I spent a good number of years in Tullahoma, TN playing 2nd Edition and Epic 40K (along with a lot of other stuff) back in the 90's.

Do I know you? (Surely? The town's just not that big.....)

A new version of Advanced Space Crusade would be amazing. 3d plastic terrain would be the best, but even just updating the tiles to looks good would be really good. Could easily see it selling massively if they unique sculpts for marines and tyranids. There is so much potential from GW universe for games like this (GW could have done 40k dreadball years ago, or Dwarf King's Hold years ago).

Something I've never understood about GW/forge world is how they are so restrictive in how they use their license, basically only doing their core products and ignoring everything else, meanwhile give black library and fantasy flight vast levels of freedom. If they had a separate company who could the same with specialist games I'm sure it would make a profit, providing they had their own sculptors and a level of freedom. The only argument against it would be take people away from their main products, however, surely this already occurs when a group of roleplayers spend hours engaging in fantasy flight products as no miniatures are required.

Yay! A Desolator Battleship just arrived in the mail, (along with two Dauntless Light Cruisers and another epic chaos horde).

Ordered several weeks ago when the panic first set in. GW refunded my money last week, and said on the phone there were none left, but then a couple of days later the order was charged and listed dispatched... weird! Oz GW for you.
BFG stuff is going for absolutely mad prices on e-bay at the moment.
