Both of those, actually. And I love that eagle, for reasons I do not understand.

:nooo But it is such a remarkably unattractive model! Nice paintjob though. Oh well...

Wild conjecture - and I don't much care as there are many great sources for miniatures out there and I have tons of most of the GW-produced minis as well - but perhaps they are clearing the Epic/Space Fleet decks for one of the most epic-scale war settings ever - namely, the Horus Heresy. Very hot right now in the GW novels and Forge World publications and an opportunity for new minis for space, air and ground troops (Titans!)...but nearly/totally focused on Loyalist and Traitor forces - many fewer races/rules to produce as major factors in the war and likely to be wildly popular and to sell like cold water in the Sahara at noon. Sexy enough to bring in new players as well, I believe. IMHO, it would be bone-deep stupid for GW NOT to do this project. Sucks though for options for Warmaster and the other SG Games. For fantasy, maybe the Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit and Silmarillion themes could be the replacement for Warmaster...

Warmaster-style LotR was done - The Battle of Five Armies, oh so long ago. It was good, but I don't know that it sold well. Epic-scale Heresy would be cool, but I doubt GW's going to bother. They seem very 28mm focused right now.

Forgeworld have been doing heresy models in 28mm, and selling very well.

With Apocalypse and the Forgeworld Heresy range, they are quite busy transferring the Epic concept into 28mm, almost vacuuming it for inspiration. I doubt they will ever return to 6mm.

of course not. other work in 28mm feeds the hobby. 6mm cannibalises it slightly.

I think the current proliferation of large models in 40k is actually working against the game. Fliers make no sense to me, titans are fun but takes up a quarter of a table, with Apocalypse rules it is all about cramming more models on a board than the game really is fit for.

Epic Armageddon has a huge advantage when it comes to using fliers, titans, super heavy tanks. It fits the scale perfectly. I understand how GW wants to monetize 40k but I can't really get into that aspect of it myself. I love Tau and are thinking of coming back to them, but the scale problem in 40k keeps me away...

Epic is a different story though and I am currently building huge armies for it..

Fixed that for you, just in time, before GW legal (and public relations!) team send you a C&D. ;D

Apocalypse was only invented to sell more stuff, specifically the larger vehicle kits. It's a completely unfeasible way to play 40K. I have always told anyone talking about playing Apocalypse: "Why don't you just play Armageddon instead". I get looks, those kind of looks that make me think bugs are crawling out of my eyes and mouth.

Damned brainwashed sheeple.

But then you'd need two scales... Its so much easier to just use 28 mm for everything.

A lot of people say this, but I'm not so sure. I actually believe them when they say that people with large collections were looking for a way to use it all. It wouldn't be any different from how I got into 40k. I started with a skirmish game (Gorkamorka), which I think is better for 28mm figures, but I kept buying stuff because I liked to paint it, and after a year or so I had enough for a 40k-sized game so I gave that a try.

It certainly is hobby before game. Before Gorkamorka I made model airplanes and tanks and didn't play with them (besides picking them up and making pew pew noises), so can I relate to the 'hobby before game' approach.

Over time I came to prefer a good game over a good hobby (maybe I just have less time), so now I prefer Epic and unrelated board games.

I totally agree with you. My post was rather an observation than a statement. I have stopped playing 40K two editions ago and am just about to quit WHFB as well. The only tabletop game I play regularly is Epic, but we are also scouting around for good rulesets for 6 or 10mm fantasy. It stands clear, however, that both Epic and Rogue Trader have massive influence on 40K development right now.
