One of the strangest assassinations in the Officio Assassinorums' records is that of the Space Marine Primarch Konrad Curze. When his Legion, the Night Lords, turned traitor during the Great Heresy, Konrad became known as Night Haunter. A Callidus Assassin managed to locate Night Haunter within the Eye of Terror and killed him. What makes this case so different is the belief that Night Haunter is the only Primarch definitely known to have been assassinated, and that Night Haunter's powers of foresight had forewarned him of the assassination attempt, but he took no extra precautions to defend himself, claiming that the Imperium's actions vindicated his decision to rebel against the Emperor.

There you go an abbreviated version of the tale. He knew the assasin was coming, but cleared the way for her, he allowed her to complete her job to prove a point... kinda extreme but I am sure he felt it was worth it!

Although I am a fluff-o-phile, but not a fluff expert, I dont believe that this was proven....
I believe that after the Assassin came face to face with the target and the comment about vindication was made, the vid recorders in the room stopped functioning. Nothing was ever seen or heard of either Night Haunter OR the assassin again.
So in true GW style, the way is open for different interpretations, conspiracy theories......and new models etc

You are correct - the official interpretation is that the kill was successful, but the camera stopped functioning just as she leapt into the the attack.
The incomplete video footage is still in the Callidus temple and is a source of great pride to them

So is Magnus dead? I didn't know that. Where's this bit of fluff? I'd like to read it. |
Naaahhh. Magnus is really camped out at his pad eating Twinkies and playing X-box. He's lost the will to intervene any longer in the world!
Shalom, Maksim-Smelchak.

I heard it was because Andy Chambers really really liked Apocalypse Now...
-Periodic.
Powerful military unit acting independantly suddenly stops following orders, committing atrocities lead by a charismatic and brilliant Commander Kurtz*cough* I mean Kurze. Then the military that spawned him sends an assassin to kill him... where have I heard this before?

hmmm.... talking about Magnus and his "death" -Tom- I thought Leman Russ fought with him and broke his back, thus banishing him, rather than being speared? This is just recalling offhand from an Index: Astartes article froma year or so ago, so correct me if I'm wrong...

I thought it was a widely recognized rip-off. In addition to what Periodic said, the author of _Heart of Darkness_ (the source for _Apocalypse Now_) is Joseph Konrad. Joseph Konrad + Colonel Kurtz ==> Konrad Kurze.
(Yay, I finally found a use for my English degree ) ========================================
Back on topic:
I've been considering the Sorcerer Council and I have mixed feelings on it. The problem is following the 40K fluff.
Chosen are already represented as Disc Riders and as (part of the) Terminators. Creating a Sorcerer Council would be adding another bunch of Chosen into the list. I think it needs to have either Chosen termies, or a Sorcerer council, not both.
I was thinking that the list needs to have Rubric Terminators (no cannons, Inv save, Imm to Panic, BoC per TSons, probably a touch cheaper), regardless of the final call.
Opinions? Council or Termies?
I'm leaning against the idea of a daemon prince for Thousand Sons. The Rubric was supposed to stop mutations. Even though the sorcerers maintained independent will, as far as I know, it was still effective for them. I think a highly mutated leader is not very characteristic. Sure, they would exist, but they would be a fairly rare minority.

I would rather have the chosen termies, than a council. I would figure that the Sorcerer leaders would not be in the thick of the fighting, instead blasting things from safety.
I agree about Daemon Princes. Its the reason I dont use any Lords with the stature in 40K. None of them should be mutated, or only to a minor degree. That was the idea of the rubric of Ahriman.

Yes Neal, I got the Konrad-Kurze link too and I only have business degrees ! ? ?Not to go too "off topic" but I routinely see in G/W "fluff" movie, literature, history, religious etc., cross-overs ... ? I try not to get too "wrapped up" in the "fluff", but I read it "religiously" ! ?On the board, it really does not matter what that piece of plastic or metal is called, but it certainly is fun to add this aspect to the game. ? However, I tend to see Chao as "Imperials gone Badd !" with the additions of Daemons (very rarely use them, but have all the models!), Artifact Weapons, Daemon Engines etc., etc. ??But again, I'm very "old school". ?And games can take place anytime in the Epic 40K time line, pre-Heresy, Heresy (SM1), etc., etc. - it's all good !

I don't care if you're off topic. It's not like this is a dedicated board.
I agree about the "crossovers" in the GW-verse. In many cases I find them incredibly goofy. For example, why do the White Scars have to have a mongol horse-rider theme because someone years ago made up the name "Jhagathai Khan" for their primarch (or whatever it is)? Same for stuff like "Mortarion" for the Death Guard and "Sanguinius" for Blood Angels.
The crimes on historical issues was covered in brutal detail a couple weeks ago, so I'll pass on that one.
Anyway, I think they need some better writing. They should hire me.

You can use me as a reference, Neal, if you go for a G/W writer job !

Heh.
I went for one, and after I sent in my package of resume, samples, and references, they changed the freakin' job description. Not that they bothered to tell me that. It was only after several weeks of non-response from the HR department that I happened to check the online job postings and saw what they had done.
After that, I decided that if their HR department is that much of a hassle to deal with, it wasn't a great loss on my part. I started to apply for a copy writer job that was also posted and decided not to bother.

Well that gives you more time to post on the forum !!! If I had $5.00 for every resume I sent out, I could have a good long weekend in Vegas !!!

In light of the multiple requests recently, I've started consolidating all the titan info I can find.
Is there a place to just post a file around here? ?
I have a table with:
name emblem colors princeps senioris forge world misc. notes source
that contains everything I've found so far.
Also, I will be posting various questions about info I haven't found in the hopes that our collective wisdom can fill in some of the blanks.
First question:?If anyone speaks Spanish, can you please persue the Eye of Terror Spanish site? ? It mentions a Legio Astorum as having unloaded from their transport frigates, but that was about the only detail I could get from the Google translation. All details are welcome.
