I don't think there is a single character in the SM Battle Company (the EA one, right ?) box. You have to buy the metal character pack, IIRC.

There is a lengthy discussion regarding SM Commanders on the official forum. My take (as an Ultramarines player) on them :
- Chaplains are good (especially for Assault Marines and Terminators), as they will allow you to alleviate the often higher numbers on the opposite side
- Captains are good, especially for Tactical units and for Terminators. But another excellent option for combined assaults is using a Thunderhawk loaded with either 2 Assaults or 1 Assault and 1 Devastator detachments.
- I find Librarians a bit underpowered right now, and best suited for Devastators (since their MW FF attack will then benefit from the 3+FF value of Devs). That's only good if you plan to use your Devs in an offensive role, though (aerial drop for example). Librarians can work with Terminators too.

If you have the points for extra characters, you could get another Captain or a Chaplain for one of your Tactical detachments, but that depends of the use you make of said detachments. The SM characters really are at their best in offense, so if your Tactical detachments are used for defense, characters could not be worth it.

I'm with the rhino's fans, too! I don't really like the Chimeras, and have a lot of the old plastic rhinos!

Hey, I am looking for information to help me select some models to use as proxy Chimeras. I like the FW Chimera models I got, but I'm trying to theme my Guard army with a fast, desert theme. I thought some LAV APCs would look good, and I wonder if anyone has used LAVs from either of these 2 manufacturers and could offer some information about sizing?

I live in Australia, so the 'penny' in the Odin picture is meaningless to me. What I need to know is how well these will fit in to the size of other models in my force (SG Russ's, FW Chimeras, Basilisks etc, and DRM infantry).

Alternative manufacturers that make models just the right scale are DRM and Exodus Wars. DRM has a wheeled APC and EW has a halftrack. Both would be a good size for Chimera proxies.

That's what I was going say, WMN !  DRM & E/W ... both have nice Chimera "proxies". :agree: I think J/Chris, you'll find GHQ & CinC models will be too small ... That being said, CinC makes a nice Sci-fi APC, and looks good IMO ... :)

Ah well, thanks for the suggestions guys, I'll have a look through EW's stuff (I haven't seen any DRM vehicles I like except the buggy).

I am sad though, I really was keen on those LAVs :(

Well don't be sad ... :(   Check out the DRM APCs/IFVs and E/W Halftrack ! :D   Plus E/W is going to release some new AFVs in the future, I've heard ... :sulk:  Including an APC, IFV, IIRC and an Amtrack ... or so is the rumor ... :sulk:  But seriously, GHQ & CinC all tend to be a little small next to G/W Epic.  Save for GHQ Heavy AFVs, like the Maus or E-100.  Which actually look like a MBTs instead of Heavies ...   Hope that helps.  You can see lists/links of all 6mm SF stuff here on the 6mm forum. They are pinned there ... :D

Well, you could go with the LAVs and GHQ infantry as well. (or for that matter, figurehead/mainforce infantry(... and then you could play moderns as well.

Certainly you could go far worse than a GHQ micro army -- just great miniatures.

I think the main issue with 'scale creep' is within an army or a side -- it's not a huge problem if your guys are smaller than the orks or Space Marines that you're playing against.

I like the looks of the DRM Ramjacks:  http://www.darkrealmminiatures.co.uk/store....&page=2

Also the new (not yet available for sale) Brigade Models Russian APC:
http://www.brigademodels.co.uk/Frames/N ... -1203.html

The Mamba medium tank from GZG is a nice model and has kind of a Bradley IFV feel:  http://www.gtns.co.uk/store1....next=40

There's plenty more out there, too.  Command Horizon's human range are grav tanks, but could probably have tracks added without too much fuss.  Scotia makes a ton of stuff, although good luck with finding pictures of it, as well.

Indeed!  That's probably why I like it so much.

Look at the GHQ former warsaw pact bmp-3 seems perfect the gun even looks a bit like a multi-laser.

GHQ BMP-3

And it works out at 5 for £6.50 so for almost the same price as a single set of chimera apc's from the main gw site you get enough to transport 2 mechanised companies with a spare left over.

Admittedly you have to factor in shipping costs

Hello Everyone! Its my first post.

I was kind of surprised that no one has mentioned PT-76 models. To me they look like they could easily be chimeras.

GHQ PT-76
