Erik M: Having played Space Marine/Titan Legions for years, and having recently converted to Epic EA, I just can't understand why you don't like the rules, or why you would want to try to merge the two games in any way, as they are far too different.

Yes, there may be some areas of the rules which could have been worded better, but let's not get too carried away here.  Compared to the rules for 40K and Fantasy, for example, the Epic EA rules are marvellous in my opinion.

The different formation sizes also make a merger between the two in terms of cards, somewhat awkward or forced in my view.

If you really don't like the current rules, why don't you play NetEpic, or do you not like those either?

I want to make it clear that I'm not dismissing your point of view, but I just don't see what you can hope to achieve by trying to combine these two set of rules, other than to confuse people.

Well Irisado, I've been standing (or not as it might be) GW rules since their first (very first!) Warhammer Fantasy Battle came out in that fantastic white box (still got Thorgrimm).
And I am very much in two minds. On one side I totally agree with the Introduction in Raider. Jervis and the gang after all did give us these games and universe. Lovely.
They have also built a business on never getting it quite right.

And as for original feeling about formations. I've changed. I prefer the bigger formations in EA. And as a whole I prefer the DS2 rules that are EA, just disappointed that they've mangled them.

Yes, I was realizing just how 'fluffy' the EA rules are -- they needed a good editor to make them work, for one thing separating rules from designers notes would have helped tremendously.  And secondly, they are written in a discursive style, probably helpful in enticing WH40k players into the Epic system, but less helpful in serving as a rules reference.

As to things behaving as you'd expect... it's worth remembering that most miniatures games are boardgames with figures: this realization should be helpful in adjusting to a certain degree of abstraction.

Many people will, of course, dislike this characterization ( and there are miniatures games written for thrown pennies -- if it hits, your soldier dies.)  But I think E:A (and for that matter, WH/40k) suffer as rulesets from their attempt to preserve the fiction that they are just real life in miniature.
