Warmaster is a great game IMO, most highly disciplined armies were faster than others. Bear in mind that the speed of units is fixed, however some armies can move multiple times due to there high command facter. I imagine you were high elves doing a quadruple move? They have a high command facter to take into account there strategic minds, arcane communication, mobility and experience.

Orks may be able to move at the same speed, but do they have an efficiant chain of command? A wolf rider and a silver helm might race at the same speed, but may not get the message as quickly and or be able to respond to it as quickly.

Of course if they are close enough, they can act on there own initiative and not require orders - this is factored into Warmaster...

WWs and Tactical Marines are the key to delaing with large Inf. formations.

All of the Marine players bring those out in droves when playing my Nids.

Hehe.. good plan probably - but that would mean you'd tie down almost 4 formations to do a single imperial guard company.

That's the idea, really. As far as my limited understanding of battlefield tactics goes. You have to create a local superiority in firepower and numbers in order to force a breakthrough. Anything else is a gamble with not too great chance of a success.

As a minimum, the attacker should have a 3-1 superiority ...  but that is not always possible.

Talk nicley to the Navy :)

I ALWAYS recommend this!
Remember that 90% of the population live within bombardment range of the coastline - or orbit in this case!  :D

Actually, even in simpler games like WHFB this is true for quite a few "erlite" armies like elves. Chaos and other combat mosters can go head on against the enemy formations, but even in that case they are likely to have 50% more points invested there than the enemy.

Now, fopr elves, that kill poo in close combat (at least in my case!) I need to multicharge the enemy, divert it with cheap sactrificial units and use screens to support my units. And win with copmbat result. I go for one enemy unit at a time, while the rest of my troops struggle to move OUT of harm's way. I usually fight that enemy unit with AT LEAST 50% more points than him, and with 3-4 units against a single enemy formation. Then I use them to move to the next enemy.

As said, local superiority and combined arms, even if WHF is more about local superiority there :)

Regards,

Xavi
