Measuring to the models just strikes me as being inconsistent. You can't move models through the base of another model so that base must represent something? Engaging in cc means base to base contact, not model to model so again the base is important. It also clashes horribly with Zones of control, dismounting within 5cm of transports, even deploying awithin the proper area at the beginning of the game!

It also throws up weird situations for shooting, you can't pivot WE to shoot, but Revenants have a 360 arc, do you measure the range from the barrel even if it is pointing the wrong way? Some "twin linked" weapons are mounted with barrels on opposite wings, how is that measured? Skimmers and fliers can be on a tall spindly flight stand, do you measure the range from the elevated position of the weapon down to the target level?

I never mentioned moving, engaging, deploying, zones of control, etc, it's about shooting.

That's how we played before re-reading the rules, and we are going to change back because it doesn't make much sense. But we can't measure from the base even if we wanted, because like I said, our vehicles have no bases (Baneblades, Battlefortresses, Gorgons, Ordinatus, SupaStompas, any non-skimmer tank, etc...)

Yeah I think when it comes to measuring there is no single right way, it's impossible to be consistent. Aside from models without bases, the one bit I don't like about using bases - if you are consistent with it - is barrage. It makes barrage very powerful of you only need to cover a bit of the base, and IMO is cheesy and "unrealistic" (yeah I know that's ironic!). I do tend to end up measuring from my models for range, simply because I rarely remember to cover it in the warmup and it is the least advantageous.

BTW rug, my interpretation for your questions:

1. No. In fact I would say you would only have needed to see one unit completely in the open, and if the other revenant can see more then any hits can be applied to them.

2. No, it just blocks line of sight, so it couldn't see the units in the open.
