As an aside, I am constantly amazed by the actual size of vehicles and the difference between what I 'imagine' they are like compared with their actual size.

Same here. For example, the first time I saw an F-105 in person, I couldn't believe how big it is. It's almost as big as a B-17.

Just imagine a Warlord at that scale using the new plastics. It would be terrific and probably not vastly more than the current metal. How much more is the valkyrie than the current warlord? Not that much and its about eight times the size. You could get so much more detail.

Then sigh when army sizes have to shrink to avoid board getting cramped thus diminishing epic battles feel from the game

That's why I voted 6mm. You double the size of the miniatures, you have to either double the playing area (impractical for most), or halve the number of units, else clutter becomes a serious issue.

I like playing with the number of units we currently get at 3K.

Ditto. I like it even LARGER(I'm large battle nuthead) but even with 6mm that starts to stretch it a bit. With 10mm or heaven forbid 15mm you can just forget it.

Sure 20cm warlord might look cool but just how big of a base it is going to require?

10mm is a good ancients scale though, where you have no hope of doing 1-1. 6mm for anything up to battalion level gaming (at a push), beyond that its 2mm or the old one stand = one platoon style.

I'll take my 6mm romans any day over 10mm though. They just look awesome and if you play size of battles where you can think of centurion(the basic 80-men unit of later roman armies) as basic unit you can do more or less 1=1. My units have 72 soldiers in their bases so ALMOST 1=1(if 8 would be dividable by 3 it WOULD be 1=1).

6mm is my choice. If anything, I'd go for a smaller scale to permit even larger battles. If I wanted detailed infantry miniatures, I'd expand my 40K armies. However, I chose to play Epic instead - because of the scale. I want big battles! And if I didn't want big battles but skirmishes, I'd play a match of 40k.

10mm or even 15mm sounds like being neither fish nor fowl... More detailed than Epic but not as detailed as 40k, more epic than 40k but not as epic as Epic. Nah. Bad idea.

The point being that you have a fighting chance to use true-scale distances for 6mm ancients; so you can start considering 1:1 figure scales. The same is true of most periods up to WWI were the battlefields are relatively small.

William Siborne's "large" model of the Battle of Waterloo uses 10mm figures on a 1:2 ratio, but works on 9' to the mile and covers around 400 sq feet - rather larger than will fit comfortably in the average wargamers hovel

At 6mm the battlefield works at ~6' per mile, while at 2mm, the entire battlefield (3 miles x 2 miles) fits very comfortably on a 6' x 4' table. But you would have to have a lot of patience to paint the ~80,000 figures (at 1:2 scale of course)

Hopefully with the large number of votes for 6mm, we can put this one to bed now...

Oh this was never anything but wishful thinking for some and worst nightmare for others. Since it is never going to happen it's purely theoretical talking anyway. Much like "if I was leader of GW how would I make Epic popular again" thinking :D

Aah if only GW would get sudden change of mind and put Epic above 40k as priority. One can always hope  :vD
