So really no news at all, but I suppose that is expected. I know Epic has been down and out quite a few times in the past and always seemed to come back, but this time it feels like it's done for good. IMO the only way I can see Epic surviving is if FW takes over model production. What do you think?

I'll be living with Amanda Tapping in Key West  before G/W starts supporting Epic again ...  :glare:  Come on Boyz ... reality check ...  :O  If you want G/W Epic, go to eBay, Bartertown, here, etc. ... And as I have repeatedly said, with DRM, E/W, etc.(see list TRC posted & C/S pinned) producing quality 6mm Sci-fi minis (and IMO some better rules !) ...   Who needs G/W ?!  :disagree:  For years now, some guys here have been pining away, hoping G/W will do a 180 and realize Epic is their ticket to the Fortune 100 ... ah ... not likely(see my line about Amanda)...  Just look at current market conditions, would you support a second or third tier product line ?  When the financial situation in the US & Europe are uncertain at best and in recession or near depression at worse.  It defies logic ...

I have seen some nice 6mm infantry from companies other than GW and they were really impressive, but that is not the only reason I play Epic. If given a choice to play another 6mm game or nothing at all I'd rather just pack it in. Epic was my first miniature game (far too many years ago) and it has a certain charm to it that to me other wargames will never have. Call me a GW fan-boy if you like, but that's how I feel. So If they decide to railroad Epic I hope ForgeWorld will at least pick it up and support it.

However I don't have much intentions of buying current SG stuff. I do have intention to buy FW stuff however.

Why are you not purchasing the SG models Hena?

Yeah my wallet (and my wife's patience) has been stretched lately updating my Eldar and Space Marines. For the Eldar though I went with as much FW as I could. Given the decline of the GBP against the USD it hasn't hurt as much to order from FW as it usually does. My wife is English so I spent a few months in southern England last year around this time. It was rough back then as the conversion rates bitch-slapped my poor USD like the proverbial redheaded stepchild.  :oo:  It's nice things are getting back to normal.

I've just put together an Eldar army - I intended to use FW vehicles but after buying about a dozen packs I gave up on that plan. The casting quality was so bad that I returned them and went with SG.
It does seem like FW will put anything out with very little quality control.

I'm sorry to hear that. I hope when mine arrives I won't have that problem with them. Still I've ordered from FW before and they've always been really good at replacing miscasts or missing pieces.

The bottomline boys, isn't that setting?
Just as FoW took "WW II" with storm and Ancient Battles ditto "Ancient" Epic has taken the "6mm Sci-Fi/Fa" likewise.
We play for the fluff and the models, no snowball in hell else than that.
Seeds of War is closest. Just it takes time to develope the setting. But hang in there Doug &Co, it'll come to you.
Dirtside and Iron Cow went separate ways from the same start. One broad on models and complex (my feeling) in rules. The other catching up on models (still need the aliens thou) and an almost primitive (even if I could see it made even simpler!) system.
And then Exodus Wars, with no system at all. Yet.

The funny thing is that SoW, IC and EW could very well merge into one functional setting.

L4, unfortunately I like the game of Epic. Also I'm not a great fan of proxies which look out of place, so I have little choice if I want to play Epic. However I don't have much intentions of buying current SG stuff. I do have intention to buy FW stuff however. That said I do have my IG and LatD infantry consisting of DRM humans as GW humans are ... well crappy looking .

Though when the Tech Aliens come to DRM, I'm going to consider buying that and trying out Seeds of War :)). Never mind that my last buys in 6mm has been from GHQ.

Well I started Epic in '90, so I've been thru all iterations and have most of what G/W & F/W has made for Epic ! I certainly like DRM & Exodus Wars too and have collected all of their minis also. And like the SoW rules better then any version of Epic ... But that is my opinion. As always, DWWFY (ie. Do What Works For You!  Not me ! :;):  My G/W Epic Forces are augmented with DRM & E/W and they look good together for my tastses ... But again DWWFY ! 8v)

If anything, and the emphasis is very much on 'if', is done to support Epic, I fervantly hope that production is not given to Forgeworld, as resin is horrible to work with.  It's too brittle and, as has already been commented on, it can be poorly cast too.

I would actually be happy if they would just make all the old Epic models available via the online store again.  They were such good models, I'm thinking in particular of old Eldar skimmers and Chaos Daemon Engines (but they are my armies, so I am biased  :;): ) which you just can't get any more.  Making the Chaos stuff available again would help LaTD players in particular.

Here's the problem with getting a lot of those old models into production: the molds were destroyed and many of the masters lost/discarded in a big "clean up" years ago.

So, GW would need pristine models to recreate molds from, which isn't very likely either to find or for them to do.

Yes, that is true, old molds have been worn out/destroyed ... And the idea of making new molds is extremely remote at best. Again if nothing, else based on pure economics.      And if you like a version of the Epic rules over SoW, FWC, Dirtside, IC, etc. that's O.K., too ... always DWWFY ...  I guess I just feel that after all the years of G/W's capricious support of Epic, that it just does not seem logical to hope that they are going to re-release or make new models for it. But as a side bar. For years now I've hoped O/C would make their "official" Slammer AFVs(M2s, M9s, etc.) in 6mm ... And it appears that there is a strong possibility that O/C will start to release some next year.  So who knows ... But I still think your best source for SM1, SM2, E40K Epic models is eBay, Bartertown and of course here ... So good luck to us all :;):
