Quote (pixelgeek @ 04 2004 Jan.,22:07) | My impression was that a distinct distribution system specifically for SG products was in place (soon to be in place) in Europe due to the difficulties they (SG) had getting their product to stores via the existing GW system.
Since he mentioned this in reply to a specific question from me about why it was so difficult to get SG products if GW distributed them, I took it to mean that GW's current distribution system was not going to be used any longer due to those issues. | it is actually quite simple really
the current distribution system is based on individual foreign subsidary's (eg GW France) purchasing relevant miniatures and rules from GW UK and then selling them in French GW stores and acting as resellers to independent gaming stores, therefore SG was dependent on GW France to distribute their products (and as indicated in another post if they don't think Epic will sell they will not distribute)
now GW UK will sell direct to foreign independents (and I guess even potentially foreign GW stores) bypassing the current distribution system

Haven't read the last few pages, so I maybe totally throwing off the conversation....sorry.
I thought I'd just post to say I've placed my advanced order for the rule book and a blister of wartrukks.
I know the book is on the pricey side (though the 40K rule book and fantasy book are ?25 too) but I am sick of loads of pieces of paper everywhere, and searching through the sheets during a game, and losing the correct order....and on and on.
I dont see me buying much else then though. I'll wait to see how the Eldar come out. Although I do intend on getting some Deth Koptas and supastompas....Oh and yes Vanvlak, a landa or four too.

Hi!
To be frank Tas, I was pretty sure those in OZ weren't in for good news with getting epic A through GWAUS. As the thread has mentioned, GWAUS, calls the shots whether it wants to sell it or not directly. So MO is the only recourse for many.

Primarch | Yes mate-I've thought this for a year, but the confirmation is still a kick in the guts.
In the past, if you ordered any GW stock that GWOz didnt have, they would put it in their next order and it would duly arrive 2 months later and you wouldnt pay any extra for shipping- which was a great incentive of you didnt mind the wait.
Now they cant even be bothered doing that. Given that the only other current range GW game I play is BFG (which they dont stock in Oz either), GWOZ wont be getting any money from me apart from the very occaisional paint pot.

Hi!
Well, as L4 has mentioned if you need orders done for you on our side, we are here for you!
I really hate how GW discriminates epic. I know epic 40k flopped. But thats the past. Yet I can perceive all the same bias because of that failure.
I just wish they'd grow up and let the game system stand on its own merits and give it a chance. It CAN make money if they would only let it. People DO want to play it, if only they'd support it as it deserves.
My first rant of the new year, enjoy!

which brings me to the point: if Forgeworld is actually reasonably-priced in comparison to Fanatic, what do you think will happen?
(besides people in Australia crying over the insane postage rates for FW stuff as well - although I suppose it's ok if you're planning to buy all your miniatures in lots of 10.)

I just got a text from the guy I'm teaching EpicA to. (Its the first time he's ever played any version of Epic).
He's just advanced ordered the rulebook, an artillery company and an armoured company.
Good news for me, as I now have an epic opponent.
Bad news for my Orks, as he'll now have artillery.

Quote (Tas @ 04 2004 Jan.,00:38) | Quote (CrimsonFury @ 04 2004 Jan.,03:25) | Other than the rule book, most of the prices seem ok IMO. |
Really? ?Even with our crappy Aus$ to UK Pound exchange rate? ?
I'm glad you feel happy (really I am) but I think you may be in the minority mate! ?
Any idea how long until pre-Orders get to us here in Oz? | Heh, well yes the exchange rate sucks, but thats not GWs fault.
I only started playing Epic when Epic40K was released, and I was happy with the Epic40K prices at the time (a bargin compared to WH40K).
Most of the E:A prices i've seen so far around 10%-20% more than they were when Epic40K was released, IMO thats not too bad a rise for 7 years or so. I think it will still be cheaper to collect a tourney sized EA army (3000pts) than a tourney sized WH40K army (1500pts).
No ETA on the Oz release yet, but I would expect Oz will have to wait at least as long as the US (eg June at the earliest)

Figures. That explains the prices and marketing tactics, then.
