Can't argue with babies...  :vD

But I can argue SoW. The way to use numbers is not streamlined and possibly bogging. The use of R(andomize)10 on a tabletop is perhaps also not that well thought out. (T4, T6 and T12 works.)

But the rules are less broken. ;)

Hi

I understand where Erik is coming from - have got massive armies here doing nothing. Got (most) of my army & support cards from SM, and was the first to buy EA in Gloucester, but still can't get any games round here.

In my opinion SM was much easier to play, but EA had more 'flavour' with the expanded weapon rules (pulse cannons, etc). Problem I found was the close combat/firefight could get too involved in larger games. (I play 12,000pts/per side - excluding Titans).

Now I've found this Forum going to have to dig out my minis & work up an army list. Will take few days though......................

Cheers
Paul H

I'd have to say, keep the systems separate.
Personally, SM2/NetEpic is personally preferred, partly because I love the system of chosing huge formations of troops and the ease and flexibility the cards present.

I would dispute that EA is "by far" the most popular system- if it is the most popular, it is surely because it is just the latest, with a rulebook you can still buy and stuff for sale, albeit limited. I have EA rules myself- but chiefly as a means to secure a few more games.

What a shame for all of us that GW has dropped the ball with Epic, -regardless of our personal preferences, it is everyones loss, not to mention a recipe for permanent bickering and factions regarding different systems.

Thanks Dominic, nail on.
The possibly good thing with GW is that they manage to up the interest in whatever they do. In this case Sci-Fi/Fa. But by dropping it there's no common ground, esp with the split EA/nE.
Just bickering, a good a word as any, for what's "best". And that includes not only EA and nE.  :sigh:

"Humpti-Dumpti sat on a wall..."

I've been over this thread again today. Yesterday I ran a small EA demo for Pettan and "Peter" (sorry, can't remember your nick right now). And found my self so upset over the rules that I had to disturb Karegak, playing "Galaxy Truckers"(?), all the time.
Afterwards we had a sit down and talked about several different things. And then I went home and discussed them again with my fiancée(!).

In short I stand at a cross-road. I want to play Epic. That's the bottom line. Nice models, nice fiction, nice action. And I'm an accomplished event organizer and want to get back on that road.
I've found that I actually like and prefer both organization, game play and rules (ie DS2) of Epic:Armageddon. I just can't stand the rules.
(It's like when Alga, the big Swedish game company published HÃ¥tunaleken as a Swedish variant of Kingmaker; they kept all the awkward rules and lost the ones that worked...)

I think it's time to put my mouth where my money is(!).
MarkConz ~ Did you have a DOC of the rules to work from?

What can't you "stand" about the rules, Erik?

Or do you mean the *rulebook*?  Cuz I'm confused.

Basically not being able to deduct how a situation will be ruled.
This because there's no common ground with how the physical universe actually works.
I also like to be able to read a rule in one place, or at the least in a series of logical leaps and bounds. Not in such as Design Philosophy and FAQ or minced into somewhere else.

I know you English have plus for ground and minus for active lead, and that's not to smart, especially not in a car (you know, Lucas, the man who invented darkness...) but what is happening in EA is ridiculous.

I'm really sorry and don't want to sound patronising but I've no idea what you mean.

EA is too biased to holding ground and not active leadership?

As for the rest, I've not had too many problems with the ruleset. Design notes are nice becuase once I've read a ruleset I automatically start thinking about tweaks. Designer notes explain why those tweaks eren't done

madd0ct0r, that's got nothing to do with Epic, Erik M is making some kind of electricity reference/joke... but I'm not sure what it's supposed to refer to in this discussion.

I think I see the point Erik M is making. Epic:A is too much about what the people say, as opposed to where the lead pieces are on the table. If it were a "physical" system, the observable qualities of the minis would be the relevant factor. Instead, it's a game about activating formations in a particular order, based on things going on in the players' heads.

asaura ~ I had to get that through my head several times under several days and finally came to the conclusion that you're absolutely right! I want the rules to work as per actual physical values.

And what was that last gripe really about then?
Well, I tried to run a demo for Pettan and Malleus. Was tired, my back end hurt like hot iron and I had just left four rat youngsters for sale in a shop. What will happen to them?! My babies!!!
And I found I got rationally angry at the rules and just couldn't stop it.
The thing is, I like this game immensely. The models are great and the game flow is ditto.

So folks, back to bickering about Tau commanders having red or yellow polka dot undies.

...Red with yellow spots... as if you had to ask... who but the most colour blind would wear yellow with red spots... and in the fall season too. yuck!

:oo:  Em, just how was your rear end sore after your demo?.. that just doesn't sound right.  Hope your rats go to a good home.

Not my "rear end", my "back end", you twit!  :vD
Apart from that it's a question of how much you bend over ... the table to reach various formations.

Yeah, we hope so, we can't have six rabbits, four guinea pigs and 23(!) rats.
But Karin wants to retrieve them anyhow...
