Hey all, back after a rather prolonged break.
I'm looking for some advice on good software to use for creating card templates for buildings. I don't need to be able to import a 3D model and have an automatically generated template, so things like "PePaKuRa Designer" are not going to be much use. The items that I'll be producing will be based off of pretty simple geometric shapes and will generally be iterations of a simple polygon with upper/lower surfaces attached in suitable locations.
All I'm looking to be able to accomplish is to produce a simple fold up style plan for things such as this:
Obviously, anything that I do create with this will be made available through links on here.
My first thought was a simple 2D CAD package whereby I could create, for example, a side piece then cut and paste these together as necessary. Something that allowed for angles and dimensions to be edited manually through the keypad rather than by dragging vertices's around on the screen. However, most of the packages I looked at were way to complex for my simple needs. Seriously, I'd be happy with a line tool, multiple cut and paste facility (or grouping individual elements into a single macro element) and keypad editing of angles and dimensions plus the ability to print.
My second thought was a simple Vector based graphics solution on the lines of "Inkscape". Such a program is likely to be over the top in terms of features but are generally easier to come by and cheaper.
What suggestions do people have?

I'll take a look at it, but my hopes aren't high. Think of the fold up cube everyone makes when they start school, generally sometime around the age of 7. The thing you cut out and fold up is the sort of thing that I want to create. I remember using AutoCAD-2 back in the day when I was at uni. But that was under win 3.1 and things have moved on an awful lot since then. Getting programs that can do complicated stuff is easy, finding programs that make doing very simple things easy and.... well..... by the time I find something that fits the bill I'm thinking that I'll have produced everything that I need so it will no longer be necessary.
