A pic from our ongoing collaborative hive project! Slow but steady progress. Outer wall gates printed and primed. At some point there will be a massive hive-wall within and at its feet city blocks with all manner of nice stuff. I showed pics of the buildings in my multi-plog and thought it nice to post a topic for this here too since it is a collaborative effort.

The ambitions are vast, but as hinted, progress might be slow. I will try to recall what has happened and fast track our status. I will post a couple of pics and skip the fun but lengthy idea generation banter...

Was going to post a few pics but get an "image file invalid". Weird.

Host them elsewhere and share those here?

FDM prints courtesy Cygnus - my partner in grime... Gives an indication of the intended size.

Learning about the limits of FDM. Nice prints but quite a bit of streaking. I was planning to make moulds and cast duplicates to build a long line of removable sections, so I sprayed filler onto the prints and sanded them smooth. I figured it was well worth the effort.

Planning the gatehouse. The gate will be retractable into the walls.

Some AA-emplacements are always handy to spice things up.

Awesome stuff, two things:

1) What software are you using to design those?

2) Go crazier with the details!!!

Thanks! These pics are a bit old by now, but Covid has slowed things down to a near standstill. Hoping to get the motivation up to continue.

1) Moment of Inspiration. Love it for quick-CADing this kind of stuff.
2)Yeah. It is a bit barebone. There are three reasons to this. First, these were printed on an FDM-machine, so crazy sharp detailing was sort of out of the question from the onset. 2) I also figured I would have to manage the significant printing artifacts somehow (filling and filing) and huge amounts of detal would not have made that job any easier. 3) It is sort of meant to look a bit more industrial and sleek than many contemporary grimdarkdesigns. With the walldesign I aim more towards the Atlantic wall than the Notre Dame, if that makes sense. Also, we aim to produce a section set like this and then supplement that with lots and lots of detailed gubbins, included designed and printed stuff, to break up the monotony.

Actually, technology has progressed since this process started... I am now contemplating getting a BIG resin printer instead (saturn or a Mono X). That would enable me to print these things to a high standard right away...
