Knights are coming to my 6/8mm hobby thread, but it’s time I started working on a battle board of my own. First up, a 4x4’ modular table from Uncertain Scenery. I wanted an urban board for AT18 & Epic, and Craig Birks’ version of the Dropzone Commander tiles are 2” deep with cutouts for sunken courtyards, highways, and details like parking garage entrances, so that earned my seal of approval. ![]() I like the idea of being able to emplacement a super heavy tank Hull-down in a garage entrance, air-drop infantry into a courtyard to keep them out of LoS, or hide a mechanized company under a highway overpass to avoid an artillery barrage, so hopefully I’ll get these painted and ready done for Cold Wars 2020! ![]() Curious bio-titan for scale purposes ![]() While these were scaled for Dropzone, I think they’ll work just fine for Epic of all scales, too. ![]() ![]() Also, in my hobby ADD I’ve started working in some of my buildings for the board as well. ![]() More to come! |

GC Mini suggested dusted automotive primer 18-24" away to get some texture on acrylic. I'm guessing it would work with MDF as well. That's my biggest reservation with most of the laser cut stuff, too flat. |

i also have wondered if highly watered down sandy paste (or other very fine textured acrylic paint) could be painted on liberally to things like road lanes to give some texture as well. |

Yeah, I’m going to do some testing on the scrap wood, and will try a few different methods to see what looks/works best. I want the roads and concrete to have a slightly rougher grade than what MDF provides, and was planning on using a watered down PVA wash to seal for priming anyhow. The challenge will be resisting the urge & enthusiasm to just plow on ahead with assembling sections ![]() |
