I wanted some evergreen style trees, but wasn't willing to pay out £0.80-£0.95 per tree in the railway shop, I stole inspiration from here http://www.taccmd.tacticalwargames.net/ ... 71#p500071 ![]() ![]() ![]() They are based on 40mm bases. They appear a lot more natural in real life, the camera shows a few more faults then what can be seen on the table. Ten bases took only the day to make, the longest parts was waiting for glue and paint to dry in-between stages. They need the trim re-painted, and I may re-wash the base as the glue has left some shiny parts, but at a lot less then the price of one railway tree for all ten bases I will defiantly be making a load more of these. |

Hi! I like the idea of putting them on bases like that. Easy to move, shape in forests and store them. Excellent idea! Primarch |

hmm.. I quite like them. Simple but effective. Maybe too simple for my taste but I think that's pretty nice idea |

Nice. Like the bases. Think I would want to do an "area" with holes cut in that you could slot the trees into and make a large wooded area. Glad to see Daves projects inspiring others. Might have to do the same. |

Yeah those look really great. Just how are you sticking the trees into the base? |

Thanks for all the comments. Mattman wrote: ...Think I would want to do an "area" with holes cut in that you could slot the trees into and make a large wooded area... Yeah this through did cross my mind, I'd like a larger wooded area, but I dont think I will go out of my way making on for now, as I have some larger trees based on CDs, but I do think it is something to work on later this year. primarch wrote: ....Easy to move, shape in forests and store them.... Primarch Yeap, they bunch up nicely allowing for larger areas but equally dont look out of place in groups of ones and twos! Though the bases I used are plastic this time round (Poker chips, I keep getting loads for less than 3pence each!) they are deep enough to drill magnet holes and store in one of the million christmas sweet tins I have. Though I don't have many, I do have access to small piles of completely flat magnets that would fit to the bottom with out the need for drilling. jimmyzimms wrote: ....Just how are you sticking the trees into the base? Plain old cheap cheap cheap super glue. Added some to the base and some the bottom run of 'branches' it soaks in nicely and makes the bottom of the tree tough enough to stand firm. I was using my 'good' super glue, but the cheap stuff from the pound store soaks in more. I did plan on an elaborate green stuff and wire attachment, but it just isn't necessary. The glue and paint make the trees solid, and if any did get any damage, they are so cheap to replace. |

Hi Rex, Looking at doing some of these myself... did you use the exact process from the original thread? (ie, poking pipe cleaners into paint bottles?) Thanks! |

Glad to see somebody using my ideas and have to give credit to the bloke from Terragenesis I originally stole it from. |

Sorry for not replying sooner. Yeah, I followed the guide almost to the letter- I left them a little longer then the guide so they are taller, and I did slightly less cutting on some as I liked the shape. When the paint dries, they look a little more fluffy, as the camera seems to take a little to much detail, which looses the overall effect. They look nice and fluffy from a foot away! I used a blob of cheap super glue to attached to the base as the cheap stuff soaks in a little more than my good stuff and it gives it a stronger grip, so they should stand up to being picked up/attacked by the cat. Yeah the terragenesis site used to be fantastic, but its not so good now. But there are some gems like this to be found on there. Though he says to avoid bright colours I do intend to try some mixes of orange and red to make a forest for mrs rex, and her wood elves. ( I have brought some orange and red tuffs for them, as my armies are in mud, dust, more mud, heavy grass and more more mud, so I thought some colour would make a nice change! ![]() |
