Here me out guys, and feel free to comment

For a while now I have been thinking of ways to make ruins that suit EA. I want something I can produce fast and simply but is flexible in its usage. So my idea was to use Lego to build small ruines, then melt said ruins with a blow torch. After that give it a decent undercoat, then a paint and TADAAAAA you have ruins casued by intense heat of flamers/Plasma etc. Lego is so cheap and available that it would be efficent to use it.

Ideas/thoughts?

Blasphemer! What did those legos ever do to you?

(More) seriously though, it could work. If you don't already have the raw materials I'd go with something like megabloks, which are cheaper and have the added benefit of not making your deity of choice cry when you destroy them.

If you have any legos you really don't know what to do with, I'll send you my address. Even I don't know if I'm kidding, and I'm frankly afraid to find out.

You can buy bucket-fulls of basic lego second hand at car boot sales in the UK, so I'd agree with Berkut that it's a cheap material.

As for melting it, no idea. I'd think that the amount you need to melt it to remove any noticeable nobbles might mean it was sludge by the time you were done. Could cap it off with smooth tiles etc, but not sure what type of structure you are thinking of to start with. Probably a good idea to file 'lego' off to the top of the studs as well before you start. Interesting idea, would like to see pictures of a test, although I have doubts as to its effectiveness at this stage.

I think your southern car boot sales might be a little different to the ones we have further north somehow.....

I meant Lego as its a term everyone knows. Spectrar Ghost is correct, there are other brand that are cheaper (and lower quality so would melt better :) ) Oh and I am sorry to say they are not going for sale!

With regards to the nobbles, you could put blanking plate/flat surface ontop to sort it out.

I would like to point out that I have alot of it kicking about from my childhood including the trains, technic, and more other ones than I can shake a stick at. Plus my step son has lots too. The modern stuff is very expensive but you can get the older basic stuff cheap.

Hmm, I now have visions of making my own "modular" clip together battlefield terrain. Maybe AB would be interested in the idea....

I think heating big plastic blocks full of trapped air to melting/ ignition point can only go right!

Make sure you videotape it.

there wouldnt be a seal, the blocks are not strong enough to create one. If it even came close to being an issue the seal between two blocks would break :) Its not a tight sealed container I am heating!

Please note, this is not a cheap option. I parted it out at ~$25 a section without any actual texture. It is, however, an awesome option.
