For anyone who is interested, these were put together by firstly cutting sections of sturdy card. Long match sticks were glued to the card, and then filler (yep, that's that pound shop stuff again!) applied to fill up the border ramps. Strips of grass effect sheeting (dunno what the real name is for that stuff) were glued to the card between the matchsticks. The matchsticks were painted up with GW Brass Scorpion paint and the ramps with Administration Grey (I think). The giant skidmarks which represent muddy walkways in the trenches were done with a brown whose name escapes me. Finally, thanks to a tip from madd0ct0r, I painted up some cable ties and cut them with pliers to create the trench ladders! None of this was particularly difficult, but it did take a bit of time which was worth it as I'm very pleased with the result! |

My brother also built two bridges for me. First up, is an infantry and vehicle bridge, built from the same rigid cardstock as was used for the trench bases, a few wee extra bits of wood that were leftovers from some Ikea furniture, some thread and a load of cocktail sticks. I expect sometime in the future to post some pictures of a perforated palm! It's nice though, and shows what can be done with a few odds and ends and a bit of imagination. I used my trusted grey textured spraypaint on it but will be detailing it further at a later date.

The other bridge is designed to accomodate even Eldar Titans! This time the bridge was constructed around a bit off of an Xbox 360 (the covering grill for when you don't have your hard drive plugged in - which never happens!). A lot of card was cut to be stuck on to this and those cocktail sticks were used again to create a bit of metalwork detailing, and also to make the structure more secure. I think he did a great job and expect to make a lot of use out of these in future battles!

I may do a battle report on this at some point but I still have 3 or 4 battle reports to submit for my campaign first! And post my conclusions, observations, and improvements to the campaign & campaign rules, continue painting my Chaos forces... and paint up a 3D Vortex / Eldrich Storm marker! So much to do, where to start?! And cheers Jimmy, glad you liked it! |

Thanks all for the encouraging words! And now for something completely different... During my recent campaign there were a few disagreements about what could or couldn't be seen past Eldrich Storms. Then we noticed something very handy - it turns out beer cans are almost the perfect size for the markers! So here's a painted up beer can which I'll be using to represent Eldrich Storms or Vortex missile explosions in future! PLEASE NOTE: Beer cans are perfect for old-school Epic where markers were 6cm in diameter. They will not be of help to E:A players where the barrage markers are 7.4cm in diameter.

And I'm sure many will agree that it is an excellent opportunity to mix two of their favourite hobbies! ![]() I just realised that some may want to see just how close the beer can size is to the template. The can is very slightly larger, so may not be good for those seeking absolute perfection in their markers, but this should give you an idea...

...Just changed the name of the thread. "3D Eldrich Storm / Vortex Marker" makes this sound a lot sexier than it is! Think I should remove the 3D reference?! |
