IF, and I say IF... Someone were to bring out a 6mm range of sci-fi buildings what look/feel would be most popular? I am thinking of near future - like you see in Bladerunner and Gears of War, you know dirty and used lived in buildings etc.. You could have Star Trek style buildings, smooth lines, sleek and all shiny and new looking. You could say have far future high sci-fi such as 2000AD Mega City One massive bonkers buildings. And of course a million others. So let us assume you have decided what feel you want, what area would you like? Urban, suburban or rural? Where do most of you games take place? I recall when I played Epic when it first came out with those grey polystyrene tower blocks, they were great but only having about 6 did not make a city which is where tower blocks would be found. I would prefer to see rural locations with a theme: maybe a future farm stead small rebel complex military camp - defence bunker mining colony - campsite secret research facility Things you could use as objectives. But of course making an entire city block to game in would be very cool also, let me know your thoughts... |

Urban buildings. Farmsteads, camps etc are very easy just to make by junk modelling. Large amounts of 'proper' urban buildings are very repetitious to scratch build and so would appeal to me as a product to buy much more. |

from a marketing point of view, fully urban options are always going to sell more - you'll only ever want one future farmstead, but you can use many of the same building in a cityscape board. As apoc says, the same goes for the modelling perspective - people are far more likely to make their own 1-off piece, but buy in reasonable priced urban buildings over & over again. As for style, blade runner is pretty much just a very cluttered, modern urban. I like that style, but with a few sleek elements overlaid - very much new built on existing as cities expand & grow over & around what become "historical" buildings from previous ages. ![]() |

The more sci fi stuff the better. I do agree with the previous posters that urban would be of more commercial interest than rural. For the games popular in this fourm there is a lot of 'objective' like pieces in collections already, and quite a few items already available. A generic gothic look needs addressing also, perhaps would be used by more than just sci fi. An important facet to also consider is the terrain can't just be visually interesting, it has to be functional game wise, places for the stands of infantry to go (inside the building too would be nice) hull down cover, fire bases, line of sight issues etc. I could almost see themed sets (kinda like play sets some of us had as kids). Could you see something like "guns of Navarone", but a multi layered hive? That would be total maddness, and if it was made out of pourable casting 'foam' might be feasable, and if it came with various intermixable sets may encourage return customers. Other ideas along this line: a Space port "set", Space 'Orc' village/salvage yard, planet of evil "set", etc. Guess what I'm trying to get at, is the terrain should lend itself and enable scenarios that give cause to the battle. Look forward to seeing what you end up making. |

My choices: 1. Hive City/Urban City Looks stuff. As Tuff and Apoc mention. 2. Military Base. Could be made to be rural or urban. Could be placed anywhere. 3. Starport. Could be mixed in with either of the above. 4. Ork Huts/Desert Village. 5, Ice/Lava World Terrian. Just something I've been wanting forever! ![]() |

Just about anything besides Gothic would please me. I'm sick to death of the Gothic look. I like Angel's ideas. A mining colony would be cool. An industrial complex would be nice, too. |

I agree that Gothic is not what we need. I'd like some plausible near-future art deco or modern style buildings, kicked up into the sci-fi realm a bit, like a future Chicago or Nolan's Gotham. Also, I want a raised highway system with ramps and wrecked sections. |
