I'm building some terrain while waiting for my big box of epic to arrive from the upper hemisphere.

Anyone got some recommendations for epic trees. So far I've seen...

a. un-flocked Christmas trees (cheap)
b. flocked Christmas trees (look better than un-flocked)
c. Woodland Scenics realistic kits (got potential but can't really tell how they will turn out)
d. DIY, how about some bendy wire and flock???
e. 'au naturel', twigs + moss + flock ( http://homepages.paradise.net.nz/kimstyl....ees.htm )

Any other ideas?

the cheapest and probably the best way is to go on ebay under train/railroad section. there is an endless supply of trees for less then a dollar. i just got about 50 trees for $1.75 (plus $10 shipping).

i personally use the woodlands scenic trees aswell and find they are good. and you can also use the foliage for ground scrub bushlands and for spicing up some of your models bases to give a more blending effect to the terrain you play in.

I also use woodland scenics trees, along with their clump foliage. I know that WS has different types of trees available; the kind I use are the bare metal ones that come flat and you have to twist them into realistic shapes. They take alot more effort (painting and flocking, ad nauseum), but they look both uniform and individualized at the same time (and I think they may be cheaper, too).

Another thing I do is mount the individual trees on thick fender washers (which is another thing that ends up needing paint and flock, ad nauseum). The fender washers help to offset the top-heavy nature of the trees, and allow you to move individual trees out of the way as you move units around the board.

Ebay example 100 trees for £8 (inc P&P), lots of sellers have the same trees at varying price/postage combos...

That is a good deal but I'm not so keen on these cheap wire trees. I think at epic scale maybe individual branches/clumps should not be visible.

True, although from a normal distance you cant see the branches, i also prefer the more irregular shape. Ultimately for me it came down to cost :agree:

I use N scale model railroad trees (some of which are Woodland Scenics).
They are mounted on MDF bases.

I also have a bag full of plastic GW palm trees which I will one day paint up and mount in the same way.

I also use Woodland Scenics trees (and clump foliage) for my Lord of the Rings terrain (lots of pics in my blog).
