Anyone seen this upcoming terrain piece from GW and thought it could be cool to convert it for use in epic? (big project for advanced modellers)

Could be awesome for a Space Marine fortress or homeworld. Some may consider the statue way too large but W40k art does has statues as stupidly large and if humanity can construct vast statues such as the Collosus of Rhodes or the Statue of Liberty then I have no doubt the population of a important imperial world / marine homeworld could definitely do easily do so over the course of ten thousand plus years.

I’d probably have the vast statue tower bit separately and use the other wall pieces to construct as a large fortress (hoping they are separate pieces rather than all one thing).

I don't think that it needs alot of conversion work.
Surely it would make a cool fortress for Epic!  :D

Looks roughly objective sized. Might make an interesting objective marker, but a piece of terrain that fits 2-3 stands seems a bit small to my taste :)

I guess he talks about using the Wh40k model.

No, no – you misunderstand my intent and the scale of what I was proposing WMN; I wasn’t talking about making an epic version of this but the possibility of buying and using the W40k model as a huge impressive piece of terrain for games of epic.

I picture a very large points siege game of epic with imperial defenders played 8’ by 4’, unusually down the length of a table, with a sort of line of city wall / fortress (made of the wall pieces from this put together in a very different way and converted to loose the vision slits and out of scale detail) running down one 4’ edge.

Mind you it might be cool to see it scratchbuilt in Epic scale.

For sure, if someone fancies doing it.

Things like the vast marine statue would be especially cool in epic scale. Is that essentially hollow with 4 x the same outer-side plastic piece? Could something similar be done CADing and printing one side then gluing together 4 cast duplicates?

Ah I see. Now that definitely could be interesting! I'd do something about the large skulls at the base of the tower and maybe do something about the huge hooded angel to give a sense of scale (Could be done paint wise, but some conversion like panel lines might also be interesting. Add some FW turrets, a landing platform (maybe keep the defense laser) maybe a communications tower...DAMMIT GLYN! Now there's a chance I might actually have to build one of these  :grin

Any idea of the price range for this kit? It's been ages since I checked prices for the Cities of Death stuff for comparison. £50ish?

Christmas Ctalaogue states it as 78€. For comparison a Land Raider costs 50€.

Glad to inspire you  I’m very tempted too.

I acquired the Planetsrike supplement to have a closer look at one and it’s looking great. I have no idea of mainstream GW pricing these days but a browse of the rumours thread I saw the photos in suggests £50. It is a really massive kit though and looking at the shot from above you get 12 of those nice eagle wall section pieces.

Personally I’ll leave the skulls on the base of the tower, they’re nicely modelled for GW skulls and are a good twice the size of a W40k model’s skull so they’re clearly not just something from W40k you’ve not bothered removing. If you paint them gold or stone rather than actually boney colour it’d help too. I will loose the triangular shapes with skulls in atop the lower wall sections as those look naff. Defence laser could be cool (alternatively an observatory with a telescope could be an alternative use), I think I’d convert or change the weapons though, probably to still something lasery but something that doesn’t stand out a mile as being a W40k lascanon.

Interestingly one side has the lascanon defence turret, while the other has recessed missile silo with a circle of missile tubes and a retracting roof-cover. The missiles are around the same size as the ones on the Guard vehicle so I’m looking at it and musing on the possible conversion of one to a Krieg Deathstrike silo.

Giant skulls!

Would need to do something about the too large firing ports, raise the floor/lower the parapet and do something about the steps.

That fortress could be a great as a section of a Hive.  I can see the statue sections being part of a massive ministorum building.

I was thinking the same thing.

Oh, for sures! I’ll be keeping the wall facades, but removing the vision slits and doors details and then ripping out / not using all the internal parts like the parapet / stairs etc, rather making my own suitably epic scale ones from scratch from plasticard and the like. Lots of reworking and using those bits as the basis to build something cool not just as is.

Mind you I’ve just had a horrible thought – anyone remember the fiasco with the blastscape scenary that looked awesome on GW’s site and in White Dwarf but the actual cast up copies were so appallingly done they were terrible in comparison and masses of people complained and returned them? I hope this will actually be proper hard plastic scenary rather than vacumn formed crap? People think it will a full multi-part kit with each wall section separate or mostly cast as one piece? Not sure what they normally do. Could work with either; cutting it up into sections if the former, but the latter would be easier to work with.

Judging by the £50 price tag, I reckon it must be plastic.
