What about alternative figure cases? Figures in comfort make a suitable size maybe?
I'm trying to find something which is bus and tube friendly.

Hey guys I know I sort of incorporated this into my last post but I thought I'd create a thread for it on it's own as I think it may be a common problem. How do you terrain makers transport your stuff? I'd love to make some terrain but I don't have space for a table, so I'm planning to take it down to my local gaming club and set up Epic scale stuff on their boards. If so, how should I transport it? Ideally I want something carryable by hand, so maybe within a figure cases? I haven't seen any of the blocky GW ones (for vehicles) but with some careful stacking and planning you could get a fair amount in there I reckon. I've seen loads of people bashing their terrain in plastic bags and big plastic crates but it always ruins stuff and it's a shame. Any ideas on this? Cheers folks -Moronguhl |

Mmm, that's sort of what I was thinking but on a smaller scale! How many table's worth of terrain can you fit in there? I'm sort of thinking about a standard single GW case, but I might be dreaming to fit a table's worth in! I'm sort of thinking put the flatish hills at the bottom and then be a bit cunning with scenery creating and packing. For example, create a wrecked building piece with a courtyard, and then store another piece within the courtyard for ease of packing. Any other easily portable cases people can recommend apart from GW? -Moronguhl |

I've seen loads of people bashing their terrain in plastic bags and big plastic crates but it always ruins stuff and it's a shame. As you know this is my technique (well there's a cardboard box inside the bag, but still it gets bashed about a bit) and I agree! |

You should be able to buy storage containers similar to what Chroma showed, but on a smaller scale. I know they're available on this side of the Atlantic. |

I use a large tub that I picked up at Target or the Container Store (a big plastic see through tub with locking lid.) All my epic terrain fits in it, you just have to be carful how you load it up. |

Cheers guys, I like the box with foam inside idea. Don't suppose anyone has opinions on using a GW case? They don't seem to make the tank/monstrous creatures one any more but I'm sure I could get my hands on lots of foam to make my own divides. Could I just about get a tables worth in a small GW case? If not, off to the pound shop for agood sized box with handles! -Moronguhl |

What about alternative figure cases? Well I am a big fan of Battle Foam, but I still don't think that is the answer to terrain. If it was all resin or hard plastic bits, you could get one of the Battle Foam pluck and pick load outs, but I think the shipping is going to kill you over there. BF is soon to be carried in stores, so you could find their UK distributor and work through them. The BF 1520 case is a monster, and would have the most options for carrying terrain, but I think it might be a little overkill. |

Cheers for your comments dude. I've had a think and I'm going to go with the plastic container with foam solution. Found a company in the UK that sell a great variety of different sizes of box (http://www.reallyusefulproducts.co.uk/uk/) and I'm currently emailing a foam company that can give me a good price on five or six panels of foam to go inside. I'm then gonna cut the shapes out of the terrain and slot them in over three or four layers. Also gonna attach a strap to the side so I can carry it like a flight case or briefcase, maybe including a shoulder strap too. I'll probably start some form of log over here and let everyone know whether it works out. Cheers! -Moronguhl |

I've been planning something similar based largely on the fact that I've got a spare figure case (from Kaiser Rushforth) that looks like it could be handy. If I hadn't got it already I'd be very tempted by those 'Really Useful' ones. Sadly I've not got any foam for it (hence it being spare) and that's where I'm stumped. If you do find a supplier let me know, I'm after the same stuff. In the end I bet I just order some from KR though, throwing money at problems is the solution I tend to go with. When I get round to it I'll post it up to show how it turns out. As I said on your other thread, it'll be a tad small for hills but that doesn't worry me that much. |

Well whilst I haven't ordered from them yet (I want to get my hands on the box before I work out what foam I want) these guys have reasonable prices.  Five layers of light packaging foam for my chosen box size is about £13 including postage.  They don't do pick and pluck but for my terrain I'm going to be having some esoteric shapes so to be honest even pick and pluck would be a bit of a false economy probably. I'll certainly post my solutions on this very thread.  Some folks have mentioned making terrain transport boxes before but I'm not sure how portable they are.  I imagine an ultra compact and portable solution would be helpful for the city dwellers among us? -Moronguhl |
