Necron scenery, stage 1 of 100

As stated in another post, I'm going to eventually print some Necron scenery on the company's 3D printer.

Here's the starting point: a 3D file in Sketchup for one of the doo-dads around a Necron control point in Dawn of War.

By eventually, I'm talking about 3 months away.

Interesting!

One quick question for you though Otterman...

Can you actually export Sketch-up files into a format that 3D Printers can use?

Unlike AutoCAD I can actually use Sketch-up so if you can this has some seriously interesting possibilities. :D

My plans are to amass Sketchup models, then get the "Sketchup Pro trial" started, and then export them into the format that my Mechanical Engineer buddy can use in the extrusion printer (I'm software, BTW).

I'm more than happy to share Sketchup files. Many hands make light work.

I had no idea that the Pro version could do that...

*sweet*

I have a friend who's an industrial model maker at a shop with a 3d printer so this could work out rather nicely... thanks!

Wish I had access to a 3d printer... I used to be a dab hand with 3d design work.

So, download Sketchup from Google and get to it. It's free.

So to clarify, can your friend handle Sketchup files in the maker, or not?

Because that could simplify things significantly.

I'd have to check to be sure Otterman... if I understand properly probably not straight across no...

but, if the Pro version can export in a format that's compatible I can use the copy on one of the drafting workstations at then engineering company I work for afterhours to do the coversion/export.

That's some potentially good news.

Welcome Otterman - meanwhile, thanks for the Sketchup suggestion. I'm investigating it  :D

No love for Necron scenery? Should I redirect my efforts to a different genre of scenery?
