Hi all!

I was curious what grey-color you are using for your buildings.
Because i took a look around and i found that mine always look very dark and not very colorful. I usually use a mix of Space Wolf Grey and Chaos Black.
I thought about adding some "warm" color to make it more alive, but i thought i might ask first!

so give me some hints on how to paint nice buildings! :)

thanks & have a nice day!
Markus

I use the "standard" method for grey buildings

- undercoat black -> big dry brush codex grey -> medium dry brush fortress grey -> small dry brush skull white

For brown buildings -> Snakebite leather -> Vomit brown -> Bleached bone ? (never tried this colors scheme on my buildings :p)

Off course, you can add a lot of wash/pigments for cool effects :)

Personally, I use commercial paint rather than model paint for my buildings.  It's cheaper (you use a lot on terrain) and stronger (terrain lasts longer).  Black spray primer is a few bucks per can and flooring-grade or marine-grade acrylic paint can be had at Big Lot/Odd Lot places for less than $10 per gallon.

As far as color, spray black.  Heavy dry brush with something about space wolves grey and a few highlights with a lighter gray.  It gives a nice overall medium gray.

Personally I do it all with spray cans because i'm lazy like that. Spray black, lighter spray of grey, very light white spray from above. Done.

I prime with Krylon light-grey aerosol primer, then pick out details, seal with clear coat, and apply black wash to bring out the fine lines.  If I'm feeling fancy, I'll also apply some crushed black pastel weathering above the windows to show where the flames were licking.

I spray most of my buildings with a light grey followed with a couple of drybrushes of lighter shades thru to white, to highlight certain features. Next is a wash using Woodland Scenics Black pigment (or diluted acrylic art paint) for the detail.

I often apply another wash after this for variety (Green or brown etc).

I spray the finished terrain using Matt Estapol furniture varnish to protect it.
