Further to my request for help on finding some software that would enable me to produce fold up templates for terrain pieces, I've got hold of a CAD package that does the trick. I can set the workspace area to that of an A4 sheet of paper, set the unit of measurement to mm and can manually input co-ordinates for the various shapes.

Since you need to have something in mind when you are playing around with these various programs to see what they're like I decided that I'd start out simple and go for the ubiquitous Imperial concrete pill box. Nice simple shape.
Well, I spent an hour last night working out the layout, template and generally messing about with the program to see what I could do and ended up with a sheet that contains instructions and the pieces for 4 Imperial Pill Boxes. You can download the pdf file from the link at the bottom of the post.  As for what it looks like when it's stuck together.......

Seen here with some assorted Barrys for scale.

Seen here alongside my missile defense emplacement. I'm currently trying to put together a template for this and will post a link once it's done.

Okay, it's a little shabby around the edges, but considering I was able to get it to that stage in under 5 minutes (I glued the template to the card before going to bed last night) and it's the first one to go up, it's looking promising. I used super-glue to hold it together and by the end of the third one I'm expecting to have got use to those things that have caused the errors shown here. Eg. Uneven pressure whilst scoring means that the folds are not necessarily in a vertical plane which means that not everything is square and true.

Feel free to download and use as you want, comments and criticisms welcomed.

Edit: Added the pdf as an attachment to the post rather than linking to Rapidshare.

And here we have the four Pill Boxes constructed, based and painted. Quick, easy and cheap. :)

Very nice work, I'm tempted to try this out.

Thanks for the comments guys. It's amazing what can be saved with basing and painting. :) I've got big plans for this sort of thing; basically, everything that I'm intending on making I'll plan out in CAD first. It will take a little longer to get the first of each item but duplicates then become very quick and simple, the bonus is I can upload the CAD plan so that anyone that fancies one can download it and make it. At the moment I'll be sticking to very simple shapes until my confidence/ability improves. So..... If there's anything that anyone wants then suggest away! I'll give it a go.

I'm not certain what the next one will be, I'm fancying some form of modular bunker/corridor system but am at a loss for the dimensions. I toyed with this idea a while back, just sketching out some footprints of various pieces. T-juntion, 4-way intersection, single/double/triple/quad entrance bunker, full/half length corridors, 45 degree corner. At the moment I'm scouring the FW 40k terrain section for ideas to steal... erm, I mean inspiration.

@zombocom: Go on. Try it. The first time's free. All the cool kids are doing it. *ahem* Since I know that people are a little wary of rapidshare I've removed the link and made the pdf an attachment to my original post. It's a single page print out and resolution isn't that important, I printed it out at 300dpi. If you (or anyone else) have access to a printer and some lightweight card there really is no excuse. :)

Edit: The dodgy first model shown in the OP is the leftmost of the painted set. The basing covers up the bottom piece of the structure itself.

Okay. For my next trick..... This one is going to be rather more complex and is a quick test to see if I've grasped the basics. It is loosely based upon the Infantry Control building in Dawn of War: Winter Assault.

Basically, a larger octagon with a buttress on six of the corners with an extended lobby with access door at the rear. The top section will be supported by the six buttress' and the access door is recessed. I've drawn the artwork for it (download at the bottom of the post) and have printed it out and stuck it to some card. So, when I get back from work tomorrow I'll start cutting it out and sticking it together. If anyone wants to get ahead of me then go for it! One word of advice though, the "base" section is a little iffy at the moment since I only freehanded the extensions for the buttress', you may want to just cut around it leaving plenty of spare until the rest is assembled and affixed before trimming the base down to size.

Edit: One tip for any of these things with sight to the interior.... Colour the reverse of the pieces with a big fat black marker (or black paint) so that it isn't so obvious. Angling the spray can to get inside was a bugger.

Edit 2: Replaced the pdf file below. The new version has a better base and the buttress' are now long enough to hold the "top" piece above the side walls..... Doh!
