it's a .bmp file, I believe that you can only link to GIF and JPG files.

If you save it as a GIF you should be fine (and it will be faster to download to).

Jimbo is correct. You can only upload in the EpiComp boards. I have only allowed In line pictures of the smaller type so that people are not caught downloading a huge file without realising.

Sorry about that.

I agree with Athmos and Tas, having spent some time on airfields. ?They are generally correct. ?And Vanvlak most of the things you mentioned on the Airfield are good. ?But Stormtroopers wouldn't be guarding the Airfield, they'd be doing raids on them, Suppy Dumps, HQs, etc., etc. ! ?Maybe standard IG troops, like Cadians, Valhallans, etc., would be assigned that task ?... ? ?:;):

LOL,

Someone sedate Vanvlak.   :p

Great ideas.  Awesome!  I really like the Pray vehicle going around blessing the machines.  It a very cool visual.

Going through some history stuff I discovred a reference that the B-29 Airfields at Guam where 8,500 ft long.  This equates to 28" (~71cm) in 1/300 scale.  Two I figures two 24" (~61cm) runways at a 45' angle.  I figured Maruaders are smaller and more powerful then B-29s.  :;):

Does that look like a good length?

I determined to keep all these things sperate pieces if I make it on one board I will quickly grow out of it's borders.  Especially if I keep talking to Vanvlak.  :D

I'm going to use 1/4" inch MDF board to make the runways.

I found some Quonset huts at Jr miniatures those would be perfect for the barracks.

There will be company (1 formation) of Stormtroopers stationed at the base.  It where they laucnh raids from.

Take Care

Mmm... Valkyrie and Vulture landing pads, hardened shelters for the Vtols, dug in accomadation for the 'Troopers... this board will rock when finished CCommissar!  :)

...How about uplink antennae, comms equipment etc for communicating w/ Imperial Navy ships and the aircraft for another idea?  ???

Remember that ground a nd miniature scale are different.  I agree that the Marauders etc are far more powerful, but then it doesnt really have to be an accurate length either.  I think 2ft is a bit large, as by the time you add all the huts, fenceline etc it will be a 3ft monster dominating the table.

Maybe 18" long for an overall footprint of 2'x2' could be better?

When I did it last time, I made it on a 2 x 2 ft poly board as I said.  I found this allowed me to make more of a diaorama style and have always liked digging features (like bunkers) into the ground as well.  This way you can paint up the area as bare dirt to look like its benn quickly scraped off for that forward base concept you mentioned.

Of course, fixed in positon like thats its was very unflexible and unversatile as well.  You can massage and modify as required with your plan.

Of course its all 'to each to his own' and either way I cant wait to see your results!
...and its got me scheming and itching again to make some terrain...

Hey Tas,

I appreciate the comments.  Unfortunately I no longer build permanent terrian peices.  They often come out much better and the detail you can add to them is incredible.  But because I move so often I can't store large terrian pieces built like a dioramas.  After losing much of my terrian collection in the last move, I determined to buy more pre-built resin buildings and terrian pieces.  I also decided to make much of my board as flexible as possible by making them individual peices.

In gaming terms by spreading my terrian into smaller peices I suffered horrible damage less often by a  direct hit, like lets deathstrike, like say a car accident.  :o

This of course means I can't cut rivers or trenches into the boards but that what I got to do.  being a gaming gypsy is not easy.  :D

Thanks for the dimensions I never know how this scale thing works.

My crowing achievement in terrian was a 8' x 5' Waterloo board.  It was for Napoleons battles, 1" = 100 yards, and it was awesome.  Rivers where carved in, I made 3' of hedges.  It had six levels of elevation and vast forest.  I breathed more flock then was good gor me, but I never inhaled :p.

It was awesome to play on.  It took 3 months to build.

When I had to move I had to throw it away because no on came to pick it up.  Bad communications or lazy person, long story.  That hurt.  So I'm not going to be doing that again.

Too bad it was an experience.

I'm reading up on Frontpage now so I can get my epic project, including the airfield on the road.  It just takes time and (peer) pressure

Take Care

Yes smaller sets of terrain, is the way I do it.  Then group them together differently for each game.   And Kommandoz vs. Stormtroopers ... hmmm, that should be a match !  We have Ork Stormboyz too, in our Ork Warbands !  I see quite a battle in the making ...  :;):

Commissar,

I see your problem and have suffered it many times as I move house every 18 months or so in the Navy.  I find modular terrain to be my favoured solution. 2ft tiles which can be stored upright in moving boxes.  Of course I can only have so many of these and the rest of the terrain is seperate and placed upon them as req.  It works for me anyway.

I feel your pain at the loss of your Waterloo.  I lost many many bits when I joined the Navy and have had much destruction in the movbes.  Almost all my stuff was damaged in the move to England and back again.  :{

The conclusion I came to was that I would rather be a gaming gypsie and suffer losses, than not be a gamer at all!  I perservere...

Cheers
Tas

PS Consider yourself significantly peer pressured for the Airfield! :)

Hi!

I found that those 33 gallon plastic boxes you can get at Walmart are dirable and easy to store. Plus being highly protective of whats inside.
