How deep are the roads cut? It might be worth painting them with chalkboard paint, but it goes on sort of thick and might obscure very shallow detail.

Previous to my latest repaint on my table I had roads painted on with the stuff, with markings done in yellow and white chalk. This way I could switch between scales. Two-lane roads became freeways in Epic with about ten minutes prep time.

@ freebooter, I wanted larger roads that looked more like the multilane things you see in real cities as opposed to the little tracks I usually use. Haven't done the lanes on them yet though... chickened out thus far.

Here's a bit of inspiration to help you finish your roads  :;):

How did you paint the lines Onyx? The whites look maybe hand painted but the yellow looks almost too neat and straight to be just brushed down. Laying down two strips of low tack masking tape is one possible method I've thought for it, though not actually tried yet.

What colours are best for tarmac too? When I start painting mine tonight/tomorrow I'm probably going to go for light grey-ish pavements and blackish road too, with MIG pigments and dabs of wash applied selectively in places then, but I'm not sure whether to mix grey, blue or brown into the basic or highlight mix for the tarmac. Unsure what colour to paint the mid road bumps too (guess they're meant to be cat's eyes?) maybe glossy white, grey or muted yellow? Sorry for high-jacking your thread a little asking for road tips Mark!

Too bad the set isn't cheaper.    I'd love to get my hands on one.

Thanks Onyx  :) The darker colour for the roads is a nice idea too.

And no worries Glyn, that's what these threads are for!   :agree:

I'm not Onyx, but the guy I play with most used a stencil and airbrush for road markings on his city board.

Glyn - I painted all the lines with a brush and metal ruler. I measured the distances, held the ruler in place and just ran my brush along the straight edge.

I sprayed mine with a light grey first. Next I painted the roads with a dark grey acrylic and did the lane markings. The crater/rubble areas were painetd with Graveyard earth and drybrushed with Bleached Bone. Last I washed the whole thing with diluted black acrylic paint.

Dangersaurus - The roads are 3mm deep.

Jonluke - Thank mate. I love what you've done with the Stormhammers more  :yay:

Cheers Markconz  :D
