I imagine it's those corner rails that are made of some kind of metal and used in certain indoor walls at the corners. Anyone know what I mean? :)

On the pictures (last of the three links), it looks just like a aluminum strip or a L-profile available at all DIY shops.

Something like this

Note: the picture is a bit blown up.

Its 20mm x 20mmx 1.5mm aluminum angle edging. I have some pictures and I can post them here but don't want to take over the thread unless Brumbaer doesnt mind...

I don't mind - it's for the greater good, isn't it :)

I repainted the rear sides of the tails using a different spray, which proofed to be less covering. But I have to admit that I like the effect - and it saves me a dry brush :)
On the gray tiles I couldn't recreate the effect. I was either too intend to cover the gray or the pollution of the city area was too strong.
The same mat is available twice as thick, and I decided to use it to do some hills. I wanted to do new hills because all "old" hills have static grass or painted sand as surface and that doesn't look right.
Sadly the 16mm mat is not a mat, but two thin mats welded together. The weld line is quite visible.
Anyway I used different spray paint for them and couldn't recreate the effect of the other spray. So I will redo them later.
To give you an impression of what a table full of tiles looks like here are two images. They have been taken with a wide angle lens, so they are a bit distorted - visible when looking at the buildings.
