I like idols and totem poles.  It's pretty easy to shape a block of floral foam into an ork-shaped head.  Paint it with a thin coat of PVA glue to harden the surface and then paint.

For a mushroom field, I went to the craft store and hunted around for pins with decorative heads (like people use for hats and veils and such - check the wedding area).  I found a bag that had heads shaped like tall, skinny mushrooms and just clipped the pins to the right height - instant mushrooms.  You might find thumbtacks that would work as well.    To hold them in place, I used a ring of styrene card and drilled tiny holes in it that were small enough that the pins had to be pushed in.  I glued that to a base, ran the tips of the cut down pins through some glue, and stuck them in.

I made those 'shrooms from round sprue as a stem and Green Stuff.  And I've made other pointy Green Stuff 'shrooms. And even using half beads from the Craft Store, glued on round sprue. But I've got large "Alien Spores" from Grendel & GZG that make Spore Glades or forests for Epic scale figs ...  I should post more pics ... :alien:  Love towers too ! :D

Really nice terrain

i fell in love with stuff from 3rd pic
(first is more tyranid than Ork IMHO)

but i decided to avoid toadstool looking muschrooms look myself ;>
