Hello all.

I've been thinking a lot about what I want to do with terrain for smaller scales, lately. I've built up a really nice collection of Warmaster terrain, which I bought with an eye for using in Epic games. I got a temperate Mat o' War and a desert one, thinking I'd prefer the green one for Warmaster and the desert one for Epic wastelands. I have hills in both colours, rocky outcrops, trees, terrain templates etc.

I do not yet have any Epic buildings.

I am planning on getting a bunch of the Wasteland ones - but I still come up against problems with how I think tables look. I don't like the way most road systems look and I rather like the idea of buildings looking abandoned rather than sill in the prime of life.

I was thinking about that and it struck me that if I painted them in desert colours, I could abandon the idea idea of roads, and make it look as though the desert is reclaiming them. A bit like how Dubai looks in "Spec Ops: The Line", the buildings could be in grid like patterns but I wouldn't have to worry about setting out a road grid with them.

Another desert option I was thinking of was the Leven Middle East buildings:

...With plastic ork glyphs bought from bitz shops stuck on them to make them look a bit like the old cardboard buildings.

Any thoughts, chaps? What are the "essential" terrain bits for you?

Battlescene Designs were my first port of call. They and Angel Barracks provided most of the terrain as featured in my battle report tonight.

If you are thinking about a wasteland/desert, Angel Barracks' Junkers & Badlands range of buildings may be of interest to you...

Oh yes, I had forgetten about angel barracks I must admit - good for a less regimented "desert outpost" state of affairs.

You might find those Middle East buildings in the OP a bit small for epic? Check out my blog for similar ones, they tend to be too small even for one stand of infantry but make good LOS breaks!

Oh dang. So you think the 6mm ones are generally too small? That's a shame, I think 10mm might look too big.

The scrapyard looking buildings look good for Orky affairs.

^ These ones I think initially were meant to be a bit Mos Eisley looking - but to me I figure with a paler colour and some transfers, they would be perfect for Tau! I know that people have had their fill of grim dark. I haven't but I am obviously interested in things that are more in keeping with other races.

My ideal would be necron tomb complexes but the best option for that are the plaster casts I've found that cost an arm and leg to ship. I do not have the luxury of space to do anything Hirst Molds related right now.

I had thought of getting a Necron 40k piece like the Tesseract Vault and wreck it as though it were a massive 6mm scale Necron Abettoir that had crashed but that would be expensive.
