I know these are two big warmachines, look here for pictures, but what is the background on these things? Are they common? Are they part of the Imperial Guard or are they part of the Adeptus Mechanicus? Is the Imperium still capable of producing them...info info info is needed on these gigantic warmachines!

Hi!

The old fluff mentioned that these machinces were mainly produced by the squats for IG in the trade agreements the Imperium had with the semi-autonomous Squat Worlds.

The CI is literally a mobile fortress. It can house two companies of infantry which can shoot from its protection and one company of armored vehicles. It houses a wide variety of command and control devices. When the overall command of a theater needs to be present at a battle, this is what they ride in.

It is of course a RARE event to see one.

Leviathans are mobile regimental commands, heavily armed and armored. Also made by squats for the IG. Much more common, although still a rare sight since regimental command uses it when they need to be "up front".

Only the Leviathans. Not CI. CI have existed since SM1 and outdate Leviathans in game editions.  :;):

Well looking at their armour style (yes I know its old artwork) you could now consider that to be Pre Heresy stuff

The piece is from the 1st edition Space marine which is set during the Heresy so yes...

SM1/AT To&E's often have them attatched at the top regimental level which means that there would rarely be more than one or two present in a given battle.
I haven't got the WD articles right now with me so I can't really remember if CI's (Named Behemoths in Codex Titanicus BTW) could be assigned at company level...

I don't have the article right now either, but I believe they could be taken at the company level.

Yep ... the boyz pretty much covered it ... We usually have CIs as a Rgt'l HQs. And Levs with Squats but they were also IG Rgt'l HQ ... In the old SM1 TO&ES/Templates most SM Rgts could have 0-6 CIs (called Behemoths in Codex Titanicus, as said) at Co. and/or Bn level... just checked the old rules !  And at one point they were part of AM, but I'm not sure at this time ?! ???  :D   :;):  The CI could carry 8 Fire Tms (stands) or 4 Land Raiders ...

Hi!

I understand the actual unit is older, but the fluff stated that all such large vehicles were comissioned by suats for the IG.

At least that is what my foggy memory remembers. :;):

Hi!

Yes, they were originally SM vehicles, but when squats later made a full appearance, they described that one of their trade functions making such vehicles.
